''Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg'' ( sv, God afton, Herr Wallenberg – En Passionshistoria från verkligheten) is a 1990 film about Swedish World War II diplomat Raoul Wallenberg, who was instrumental in saving the lives of thousands of Hungarian Jews from the Holocaust. He is played by Stellan Skarsgård. The film won four awards at the 26th Guldbagge Awards: Best Film (Katinka Faragó), Best Direction ( Kjell Grede), Best Screenplay (Kjell Grede), and Best Cinematography (Esa Vuorinen). It was also entered into the 41st Berlin International Film Festival. He was best known by international audiences for his work in films directed by Ingmar Bergman, Andrei Tarkovsky and Theodoros Angelopoulos. A ''Judenrat'' (, "Jewish council") was a World War II administrative agency imposed by Nazi Germany on Jewish communities across occupied Europe, principally within the Nazi ghettos. Gábor Vajna (4 November 1891 – 12 March 1946) was a Hungarian politician, who served as Minister of the Interior from 1944 to 1945. Early life Vajna was born into a Transylvanian Calvinist family in Kézdivásárhely (today Târgu Secuiesc, Romania), then part of the Kingdom of Hungary on 4 November 1891. He participated in World War I as an officer in the 29th Feldjäger Battalion of the Austro-Hungarian Army and received many honors during his forty-three months of military service. Following the war, Vajna took service in the Hungarian Embassy at Vienna, and later worked for the Ministry of Defence. He retired from the Royal Hungarian Army as a Major in 1924. Pál Szalai (September 3, 1915 – January 16, 1994) also spelled Pál Szalay and later anglicized as Paul Sterling was a high-ranking Hungarian police officer and reinstated member of the Arrow Cross Party after 1944.
