Goliath II
''Goliath II'' is a 1960 American animated comedy short film produced by Walt Disney Productions. Directed by Wolfgang Reitherman and written by Bill Peet, it is narrated by Sterling Holloway and stars the voices of Kevin Corcoran, Barbara Jo Allen and Paul Frees. It was released theatrically in the United States on January 21, 1960 alongside the live-action film ''Toby Tyler'' (also starring Corcoran). The short was the first Disney short cartoon to make full use of xerography, a process of using Xerox technology to transfer animation drawings to cels as part of the traditional animation process instead of utilizing hand-inking. ''Goliath II'' received an Academy Award nomination for Best Animated Short, losing to Gene Deitch's ''Munro''. Elements of this short were later reused in ''The Jungle Book'' (1967). Wolfgang Reitherman
Wolfgang Reitherman (June 26, 1909 – May 22, 1985), also known and sometimes credited as Woolie Reitherman, was a German–American animator, director and producer and one of the "Disney's Nine Old Men, Nine Old Men" of core animators at Walt Disney Animation Studios, Walt Disney Productions. He emerged as a key figure at Disney during the 1960s and 1970s, a transitionary period which saw the death of Walt Disney in 1966, with him serving as director and/or producer on eight consecutive Disney animated feature films from ''One Hundred and One Dalmatians'' (1961) through ''The Fox and the Hound'' (1981). A comedy film is a category of film which emphasizes humor. These films are designed to make the audience laugh through amusement. ''Munro'' is a 1960 Czechoslovak-American animated short film directed by Gene Deitch, written by Jules Feiffer, and produced by William L. Snyder. ''Munro'' won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film in 1961. It was the first short composed outside of the United States to be so honored. The Academy Film Archive preserved ''Munro'' in 2004. Plot The title character is a rebellious little boy who is accidentally drafted into the United States Army. No matter which adult he tells, "I'm only four", they all fail to notice his age. Eugene Merril Deitch (August 8, 1924 – April 16, 2020) was an American illustrator, animator, comics artist, and film director who was based in Prague from the 1960s until his death in 2020. Deitch was known for creating animated cartoons such as ''Munro (film), Munro'', ''Tom Terrific'', and ''Nudnik'', as well as his work on the ''Popeye'' and ''Tom and Jerry'' series. Early life Deitch was born in Chicago on August 8, 1924, the son of salesman Joseph Deitch and Ruth Delson Deitch. In 1929, the family moved to California, and Deitch attended school in Hollywood.
