Gold Strike is a Dutch cinnamon liqueur containing gold snippets, produced by Lucas Bols. The company suggests it should be drunk as a shot, with the motto "Shake, Shoot and Strike". It is a clear liquid that tastes like cinnamon candy. Though the company website states the gold flakes are "24- carat", some bottles indicate that the gold has various other levels of purity, such as 22 K or 23.5 K. The gold flakes present little health risk. A common urban legend about Gold Strike is that the gold flakes cut the throat or stomach upon ingestion, allowing the alcohol to directly enter the bloodstream for quicker intoxication. Gold Strike (foaled 2002 in Manitoba) is a Canadian Thoroughbred Champion racehorse. Bred and raced by Dick Bonnycastle's Harlequin Ranches, she was out of the mare, Brassy Gold. Her sire was the outstanding Smart Strike, a two-time leading sire in North America who also sired Curlin, Soaring Free, and English Channel, among others. Gold Strike is the dam of 2022 Kentucky Derby winner Rich Strike. Racing career At age two in 2004, Gold Strike raced at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg, Manitoba for trainer Blair Miller where she won two of her three starts. Hoover Dam Lodge is a hotel and casino near Boulder City, Nevada. It is owned and operated by Richard Craig Estey ( Nevada Restaurant Services). It was previously the Gold Strike until it was largely destroyed by an accidental fire on June 16, 1998. It reopened the next year as the Hacienda and then took on its current name in January 2015.
