Goianira
Goianira is a municipality in central Goiás state, Brazil, located 32 kilometers northwest of the state capital, Goiânia. The population was 45,296 (2020) with a total area of 200.4 km² (10/10/2002). Goianira is becoming a major producer of shoes. Goianira is four kilometers east of highway BR-457 / GO-415, which links Goiânia to Aruanã. It is in the Meia Ponte River valley. Neighboring municipalities are: *north: Caturaí *south: Goiânia and Trindade *east: Santo Antônio de Goiás *west: Avelinópolis History Goianira was founded in 1920 by Padre Pelágio Sáuter, with the name São Geraldo. In 1935, São Geraldo became a district. In 1940, it served as a base for the construction of the new capital of the state of Goiás, and the name was changed to Itaim. This name lasted until 1942 when it was changed to Itaité. After a popular movement, the name was changed back to São Geraldo. Trindade, Goiás
Trindade () is a city and municipality in Goiás state, Brazil. It is famous for the religious celebrations held there in July and is now the third most important pilgrimage site in Brazil. On the west side of the city is a purpose-built raceway where, in 2014, the city hosted a MotoCross World Championship, Grand Prix race. Trindade is part of the Goiânia Microregion, which has over one million six hundred thousand inhabitants. It is located approximately 30 km. west of Goiânia, to which it is connected by a four-lane highway, GO-060. Caturaí
Caturaí is a municipality in central Goiás state, Brazil. Caturaí is 32 kilometers north of Goiânia and belongs to the Anápolis Microregion. It is connected to the state capital by highway GO-070. Neighboring municipalities are: Inhumas, Goiânia, Santa Bárbara de Goiás, Araçu, Avelinópolis, and Trindade. Geography The climate is tropical with minimum temperatures of 17 °C and maximums of 27 °C. Meia Ponte River
The Meia Ponte River (Portuguese, ''Rio Meia Ponte'') is one of the most important rivers in the state of Goiás, Brazil. Its source lies 60 km north of the city of Goiânia and it flows through that city in a southern direction joining the Paranaíba River just downriver of Cachoeira Dourada Dam. The Paranaíba River marks the border between the states of Goiás and Minas Gerais. The Meia Ponte's basin furnishes water for 2 million people, fifty percent of the population of the state, and a large part of the economy depends on it. The Meia Ponte receives great amounts of garbage, industrial waste, and untreated sewage greatly reducing the quality of its waters. The city of Goiânia dumps over 90% of its untreated sewage into the river.
