''God of War'' is a six-issue American comic book limited series set in the Greek mythology era of the ''God of War (franchise), God of War'' universe. The series was written by Marv Wolfman, illustrated by Andrea Sorrentino, and the cover art for each issue was produced by Andy Park (comics), Andy Park, who was also an artist for the video game series. The first five issues of ''God of War'' were published by WildStorm. Due to the company's closure in December 2010, the final issue was published by their parent company, DC Comics. The series' launch coincided with the release of the video game ''God of War III'' in March 2010. The final issue was published in January 2011, followed by a Trade paperback (comics), trade paperback in March. The limited series follows the story of Kratos (God of War), Kratos, the protagonist of the video game series. Andy Park (comics)
Andy Park (born July 3, 1975) is a Korean-American comic book artist, illustrator, and concept artist. Career Andy Park started his professional career as a comic book artist at Extreme Studios, a division of Image Comics. He penciled both interior work as well as cover work for several titles, most notably, "Avengelyne" and Glory/Angela: Angels in Hell. Park took a hiatus from comic books to study Illustration at Art Center College of Design. In 1999, he returned to comic books to illustrate the new "Tomb Raider (comics)" comic book series written by Dan Jurgens and published by Top Cow Productions and was noted as one of the top 10 artists in the industry by Wizard Magazine. Tomb Raider #1 was the highest selling comic book of 1999. Ares
Ares (; grc, Ἄρης, ''Árēs'' ) is the Greek god of war and courage. He is one of the Twelve Olympians, and the son of Zeus and Hera. The Greeks were ambivalent towards him. He embodies the physical valor necessary for success in war but can also personify sheer brutality and bloodlust, in contrast to his sister, the armored Athena, whose martial functions include military strategy and generalship. An association with Ares endows places, objects, and other deities with a savage, dangerous, or militarized quality. Although Ares' name shows his origins as Mycenaean, his reputation for savagery was thought by some to reflect his likely origins as a Thracian deity. First released on March 22, 2005, for the PlayStation 2 (PS2) console, it is the first installment in the series of the same name and the third chronologically. Loosely based on Greek mythology, it is set in ancient Greece with vengeance as its central motif. The player controls the protagonist Kratos, a Spartan warrior who serves the Olympian gods.
