''God's Son'' is the sixth studio album by American rapper Nas. It was released on December 13, 2002, by Ill Will and Columbia Records. Production took place during 2001 to 2002, and was handled by several producers, including Salaam Remi, Chucky Thompson, Ron Browz, Eminem, and The Alchemist. Partly inspired by Nas' feud with Jay-Z and the death of his mother in early 2002, ''God's Son'' covers lyrical themes such as religion, violence, and his own emotional experiences. It has been recognised by critics as some of Nas' most personal work. The album debuted at number 18 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, selling 156,000 copies in its first week of sales. "Ether" is a diss song by American rapper Nas, from his 2001 album ''Stillmatic''. The song was a response to Jay-Z's "Takeover", a diss track directed towards Nas and Prodigy. Nas named the song "Ether" stating, "Ether" has been called a "classic" diss track and the "wildest" in hip hop history by music publications. Song Jay-Z dismissed Nas as a has-been on the diss track "Takeover". Nas responds to Jay's claims by rapping, "I got this, locked since Nine-One (1991), I am the truest/ Name a rapper that I ain't influenced." "Takeover" is a track recorded by Jay-Z for his 2001 album ''The Blueprint''. The song is a diss track aimed at rappers Nas and Prodigy of Mobb Deep. Background This song was the first official LP diss track to publicize directly the hip hop feud between Jay-Z and Nas (although there exists several other rap records prior to this featuring disses from both Nas and Jay-Z toward each other). It samples the song "Five to One" by the Doors and "Sound of da Police" by KRS-One. The first line in this song is taken from Jay-Z's verse in "Celebration" off of the ''Streets Is Watching'' soundtrack. The song also interpolates David Bowie's " Fame". East Coast hip hop is a regional subgenre of hip hop music that originated in New York City during the 1970s. Hip hop is recognized to have originated and evolved first in the Bronx, New York City.
