Goba Gorinchem
Goba Gorinchem is a Dutch basketball club based in Gorinchem. Established on 1 May 1970, the team played three seasons in the Eredivisie, the highest tier of Dutch basketball. GOBA entered the Eredivisie in 1993 and left in 1996. In the 1994–95 season, the team won the national NBB Cup. In the 1995–96 season, Goba played two European games against Finnish club Namika Lahti. NBB Cup
The Basketball Cup, formerly the NBB Cup ( nl, NBB-Beker), is an annual cup competition for Dutch basketball teams organised by the Basketball Nederland. Every team in the Netherlands can participate by signing up for the preliminary rounds. Professional basketball teams from the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) enter the tournament in the fourth round. From 1977 until 1990 professional teams were not allowed to participate in the competition. The tournament is organized in a knock-out format, with quarter- and semi-finals being two-legged series while the final is played in a single game. Heroes Den Bosch and Donar are the two clubs with the most cup titles, as both have a total of 7 titles. Promotiedivisie
The Promotiedivisie (English: Promotion Division) is the second tier of basketball in the Netherlands and is the highest amateur competition in the country. At the end of a Promotiedivisie-season, a Final Four is played to decide the new champion. The champion technically earns the right to promote to the Dutch Basketball League, although it only happens in exceptional cases, because a club has to turn professional to play in the league. In 2012, Apollo Amsterdam became the first Promotiedivise champion to promote to the next season of the Dutch Basketball League. Lokomotief is the most successful team with three won titles. The Dutch Basketball League (DBL), formerly the Eredivisie, was the highest professional basketball league in the Netherlands, run by the Federatie Eredivisie Basketball (FEB). Since 2021, the league has been replaced by the Belgian-Dutch BNXT League. The league had a closed system: to participate, a team has to have enough money and potential. The league began in 1960 as the ''Eredivisie'' and was organized by the NBB and later the FEB. In 1977 the league introduced play-offs. Namika Lahti
Namika Lahti was a basketball club based in Lahti, Finland. The club played in the Korisliiga, the top Finnish championship league. The club was established in 1898 in Vyborg and moved to Lahti in 1947. In 2015, the club was dissolved, after economic problems. Name and history "Namika" is a nickname for NMKY, meaning YMCA. Richard van Poelgeest (born 23 March 1966) is a Dutch retired basketball player. He played for several clubs in the Netherlands and Belgium in his career. He was also a member of the Netherlands national basketball team. Career Van Poelgeest started his professional career in 1984 with Elmex Leiden in the Eredivisie, the highest league in the Netherlands. Van Poelgeest played college basketball in the United States for the Nebraska Cornhuskers starting from 1986. His career high was 19 points against Iowa State on 26 February 1988. After college, he returned to the Netherlands to play for BSW Weert, at the time named Selex Weert. In 1994, he won the club's first Dutch championship with Weert. Michael Anthony Huger (born June 27, 1970) is an American college basketball coach who is an assistant coach for Temple. Prior to Temple, he was the head coach for his alma mater Bowling Green Falcons team. Huger is a native of New York City. Playing career He was a star player at Bowling Green from 1989 to 1993, playing under Coach Jim Larranaga. As a player at Bowling Green, Huger was named second-team all-MAC as a junior and first-team all-MAC as a senior. He is 6th all-time on BG's 3-point FG% list. He made two appearances in the National Invitational Tournament as a player.
