Goat Girl (album)
''Goat Girl'' is the debut eponymous studio album by English post-punk band Goat Girl. It was released on 6 April 2018, by Rough Trade Records. The album charted at number 24 on the UK Official Albums Chart, and number 44 in Scotland. Release The first track to be released from the album, "Country Sleaze", was released on 20 September 2016. On 30 October 2017, Goat Girl announced the release of their second single "Cracker Drool". The single was produced by Dan Carey at his South London studio, while the music video was directed by CC Wade in Sussex, England. On 6 February 2018, the band announced the release of their debut album, along with the single "The Man". Goat Girl
Goat Girl is an English post-punk band from South London. Their initial lineup consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Clottie Cream (Lottie Pendlebury), guitarist and occasional lead vocalist L.E.D. (Ellie Rose Davies), bassist Naima Jelly (Naima Bock) and drummer Rosy Bones (Rosy Jones). UK music magazine ''DIY'' describe them as being "imbued with an innate ability to voice the socio-political concerns of their peers with wit and style". In 2019, bassist Holly Hole joined the band, replacing Naima Jelly. Formation and signing to Rough Trade The band played early gigs in The Windmill, Brixton and named themselves after comedian Bill Hicks' character 'Goat Boy'. They signed a deal with Rough Trade Records on 24 July 2016, and put out a couple of singles prior to the release of their debut album two years later. ''Pitchfork'' (formerly ''Pitchfork Media'') is an American online music publication (currently owned by Condé Nast) that was launched in 1995 by writer Ryan Schreiber as an independent music blog. Schreiber started Pitchfork while working at a record store in suburban Minneapolis, and the website earned a reputation for its extensive coverage of indie rock music. It has since expanded and covers all kinds of music, including pop. Pitchfork was sold to Condé Nast in 2015, although Schreiber remained its editor-in-chief until he left the website in 2019. Fopp is a British chain of retail shops selling music, film, books and other entertainment products in the United Kingdom. It is owned by HMV. History Origins The company was setup by Englishman Gordon Montgomery and began as a one-man stall in Glasgow, Scotland in 1981. The name "Fopp" comes from the title of a song by the Ohio Players on their 1975 album ''Honey''. By 2007, Fopp had expanded to become a chain of over 100 branches in the UK. With the demise of rival chain Music Zone, Fopp became the third largest specialist music retailer in the UK in terms of shop numbers (after HMV and Virgin Megastores). Weighted Arithmetic Mean
The weighted arithmetic mean is similar to an ordinary arithmetic mean (the most common type of average), except that instead of each of the data points contributing equally to the final average, some data points contribute more than others. The notion of weighted mean plays a role in descriptive statistics and also occurs in a more general form in several other areas of mathematics. If all the weights are equal, then the weighted mean is the same as the arithmetic mean. While weighted means generally behave in a similar fashion to arithmetic means, they do have a few counterintuitive properties, as captured for instance in Simpson's paradox. The Official Albums Chart is a list of albums ranked by physical and digital sales and (from March 2015) audio streaming in the United Kingdom. It was published for the first time on 22 July 1956 and is compiled every week by the Official Charts Company (OCC) on Fridays (previously Sundays). It is broadcast on BBC Radio 1 (top 5) and found on the OCC website as a Top 100 or on UKChartsPlus as a Top 200, with positions continuing until all sales have been tracked in data only available to industry insiders. However, even though number 100 was classed as a hit album (as in the case of The Guinness Book of British Hit Albums) in the 1980s until January 1989, since the compilations were removed this definition was changed to Top 75 with follow-up books such as The Virgin Book of British Hit Albums book only including this data. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Inspired by punk's energy and DIY ethic but determined to break from rock cliches, artists experimented with styles like funk, electronic music, jazz, and dance music; the production techniques of dub and disco; and ideas from art and politics, including critical theory, modernist art, cinema and literature. These communities produced independent record labels, visual art, multimedia performances and fanzines.
