Goalkeepers (Gates Foundation)
Goalkeepers is an initiative launched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in 2017 to bring together leaders from around the world to accelerate progress toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The initiative also provides reports and data flow charts over SDGs progress since 1990. Its core event is the annual ''Goalkeepers Conference'' (which usually takes place during Global Goals Week and the UN General Assembly) at which the ''Changemaker Award'' is bestowed to 'extraordinary individuals who are driving progress in their communities and countries'. Invitations are issued to global leaders and aspiring personalities who have been personally selected by the board. Previous attendees include Barack Obama, Emmanuel Macron, Amina J. Nadia Murad Basee Taha (; ar, نادية مراد باسي طه; born 10 March 1993) is an Iraqi Yazidis, Yazidi Human rights activists, human rights activist who lives in Germany. In 2014, she was kidnapped from her hometown Kocho, Iraq, Kocho and held by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, Islamic State for three months. Murad is the founder of Nadia's Initiative, an organization dedicated to "helping women and children victimized by genocides, Mass Atrocity crimes, mass atrocities, and human trafficking to heal and rebuild their lives and communities". In 2018, she and Denis Mukwege were jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for "their efforts to end the wartime sexual violence, use of sexual violence as a weapon of war and armed conflict". Bonita Sharma () is a Nepali health and nutrition activist. She runs Social Changemakers and Innovators (SOCHAI) and in 2019 was listed as one of the BBC's '' 100 Women''. Early life Sharma was born in Nepal. She studied for a BA in Public Health at Purbanchal University and took a master's degree in Nutrition from Tribhuvan University. Career Bonita Sharma founded Social Changemakers and Innovators (SOCHAI) in 2017. It is a non-profit organization which aims to eradicate malnutrition and to encourage good health, particularly for women and children. In order to reduce child deaths from malnutrition, she introduced a bracelet called Nutribeads (Poshan Maala) which helps mothers to plan meals for their children. The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) is a public health agency of the African Union to support the public health initiatives of member states and strengthen the capacity of their health institutions to deal with disease threats. The Africa CDC ideas was proposed by the government of Ethiopia in 2013 during a TB/HIV special summit in Abuja, Nigeria. From 2013 to 2016, the modalities and statue of Africa CDC were developed and the specialized agency was officially launched in January 2017. John N. Nkengasong is a Cameroonian-American virologist serving as the Global AIDS Coordinator in the Biden administration since 2022.
