Globe Inn
Globe Inn was a famous inn and tavern in Washington, Pennsylvania. It was opened in 1798 by David Morris. With the completion of the nearby National Road westward to Wheeling, West Virginia, the Globe Inn was well-positioned to serve the new traffic. During that time, the Globe Inn hosted 5 Presidents of the United States: James Monroe, Andrew Jackson, William Henry Harrison, James K. Polk, and Zachary Taylor. On May 25, 1825, the Marquis de Lafayette visited Washington, Pennsylvania and stayed at the Globe Inn on his tour of the United States to celebrate the 50th anniversary of independence. Washington & Jefferson College (W&J College or W&J) is a private liberal arts college in Washington, Pennsylvania. The college traces its origin to three log cabin colleges in Washington County established by three Presbyterian missionaries to the American frontier in the 1780s: John McMillan, Thaddeus Dod, and Joseph Smith. Zachary Taylor
Zachary Taylor (November 24, 1784 – July 9, 1850) was an American military leader who served as the 12th president of the United States from 1849 until his death in 1850. Taylor was a career officer in the United States Army, rising to the rank of major general and becoming a national hero for his victories in the Mexican–American War.
