Glenunga International High School
Glenunga International High School (GIHS), formerly Glenunga High School (GHS), is a publicly-funded international school in Adelaide, South Australia. It is located approximately south-east of the Adelaide city centre in the suburb of Glenunga, between L'Estrange and Conyngham Streets, adjoining the major thoroughfare Glen Osmond Road. The school serves the surrounding suburbs of the cities of Unley, Burnside and the Adelaide Hills. Glenunga offers the Ignite program for gifted students as well as the IB Diploma Programme. the principal is Wendy Johnson. History The school was established in 1903 from the defunct Adelaide Agricultural School (founded 1897 with Andrew Ferguson as headmaster) as the Preparatory School for the South Australian School of Mines and Industries. The University of South Australia (UniSA) is a public research university in the Australian state of South Australia. It is a founding member of the Australian Technology Network of universities, and is the largest university in South Australia with approximately 37,000 students. Rex Wright
Rex Alan Wright (born in Sydney, New South Wales alongside his twin brother Mark Wright) is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1980s. He played for the North Sydney Bears in the New South Wales Rugby League competition. He also made one appearance at representative level for New South Wales. His position of choice was at . Wright is one of only three players ever to have been selected to play for New South Wales in the Rugby League State of Origin series whilst not actually playing in the NSWRL at the time. Wright was playing for North Newcastle in the Newcastle Rugby League when he was selected in 1984 for his sole representative appearance. Joe Scalzi
Giuseppe "Joe" Scalzi (born 4 July 1951) is a former Australian politician. He was a Liberal Party member of the South Australian House of Assembly between 1993 and 2006, representing the electorate of Hartley. Early life Scalzi was a high school teacher before entering parliament. Political career In 1993, he was elected amidst the Liberal landslide victory that year, which saw Dean Brown become Premier. Scalzi very narrowly retained his seat despite an 11.7 percent swing at the 1997 election reducing him to a margin of 0.7 percent. Paul Mildren
Paul Frank Mildren (born 3 May 1984 in Adelaide, South Australia) is an Australian former professional baseball pitcher. He was 6' 1" tall and weighed 195 lbs. Career highlights Signed by the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent on 19 February 2001. He split 2002 between the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Marlins and the New York–Penn League Low-A Jamestown Jammers. From 2003 through 2004 he was with the South Atlantic League Single-A Greensboro Bats. Friendly Street Poets
Friendly Street Poets, often referred to as just Friendly Street, is a poetry reading group and publisher in Adelaide, South Australia, established in 1975. History Friendly Street Poets was inaugurated as a fortnightly poetry reading on 11 November 1975, organised by Andrew Taylor, Richard Tipping and Ian Reid. The first meeting took place on the roof of the former Gordon Sim Choon fireworks factory, on Union Street (off Rundle Street) in the East End of Adelaide. Then Chief Justice of South Australia, John Bray, himself a poet, was present. Jenny Boult was also instrumental in setting up the group. It soon became a monthly event, and after about a year of meeting at the Media Resource Centre (then at 1 Union Street), the group moved to the Federal Box Factory. In 1977 a selection of the best poets from that year's readings was published as the ''Friendly Street Reader'', and a similar volume has been produced annually since then. Shark Attacks In South Australia
As of 2014, there have been 82 recorded shark attacks in South Australia since the establishment of the colony in 1836. 20 of those have involved a single fatality. Victims were involved in a range of aquatic activities, including surfing, diving, spear-fishing, snorkeling, boating and swimming. Six of the fatalities occurred off the coast of greater metropolitan Adelaide, with the remainder distributed across South Australia's extensive coastline. Doru Frîncu
Doru Frîncu or Doru Francu-Cioclei (born 5 May 1954) is a Romanian bobsledder. He competed in the four man event at the 1980 Winter Olympics. Frîncu was coach to the Australian Olympic bobsleigh team from as early as 1989 through 2006. His mentees included Grant Edwards. Ivor Francis (painter)
Ivor Pengelly Francis (13 March 1906 – 6 November 1993) was an artist and art critic and teacher in South Australia. He has been called South Australia's premier surrealist painter. Biography Ivor Francis was born in Uckfield, England and emigrated to South Australia on the ''Moreton Bay'' in 1924 as a Barwell Boys, Barwell scheme "apprentice farm boy", and went to work at Oolooloo station at Elliston, South Australia, Elliston on Eyre Peninsula. He joined the Adelaide Teachers College in 1925 and on qualifying started teaching at Jamestown, South Australia, Jamestown in 1929, then Prospect, South Australia from 1930. David Friedrich Dallwitz (25 October 1914 – 24 March 2003) was a South Australian jazz and classical musician, bandleader, composer, painter, and art teacher whose work spanned almost seven decades. He led jazz, Dixieland, and ragtime bands, and performed with classical chamber music groups. Biography Dallwitz was born in Freeling, South Australia. He studied violin as a child. After moving with his family to Adelaide in 1930, he developed an aptitude for jazz piano. Greg Crafter
Gregory John Crafter (born 16 September 1944) is a former South Australian Labor Party politician. He was the member for Norwood from 1979 to 1993, with a short break from September 1979 to February 1980. Crafter was elected in a March 1979 by-election triggered by the abrupt resignation of Premier Don Dunstan, the member for Norwood since 1953. Only six months later, however, he was turned out of office by Liberal Frank Webster as Labor lost government in the September 1979 state election.
