Glenswilly GAA (Irish: ''CLG Gleann tSúilí'') is a GAA club based in Glenswilly, County Donegal, Ireland. Most noted for winning the Donegal Senior Football Championship in 2011, 2013 and 2016, the team has fielded players like All-Ireland winning captain Michael Murphy. The club's chairman is Michael Murphy. History The present club was founded in 1982. A teenage Manus McFadden arranged a meeting at Foxhall of Glenswillyites who were interested in forming a team, with Joe Kelly, Roger McDaid, Fr Eamon Crossan, Finbar Glackin, Jimmy Joe McGinley and chair Eddie McDevitt (who has since died). Glenswilly reached their first ever Senior County Final in 2007, where they lost to near neighbours St Eunan's 0–12 to 1–3. The ''Donegal News'' (also known as ''Derry People/Donegal News'' and formerly ''Derry People'') is a twice-weekly local newspaper in the northwest of the island of Ireland, first published in 1902. Termon
Termon () is a village in the north of County Donegal, Ireland. Geography Termon is located eight miles from Letterkenny, Donegal's main town and seven miles from Creeslough. Termon is made up of many townlands including Currin, Doon, Drumlaurgagh, Drumbrick, Drumoughill, Cloncarney, Terhillion, Gortnalaragh, Clonkilly, Knocknabollan, Fawans, Drumdeevin, Drumfin, Barnes, Stragraddy, Ballybuninabber, Letterfad, Goal and Gurtin, Loughaskerry. There are several hills close to Termon, including Lough Salt (469m), the hills of Barnes-Crockmore (the "Resting Bishop") at 324m, 349m & 307m respectively, and Stragraddy mountain (285m). Michael McGeehin
Michael McGeehin (born 1961/2) is a Gaelic football trainer currently attached as head coach to Tipperary. He has previously worked with the Clare, Mayo, Fermanagh, Donegal, Limerick and Laois county teams (as well as numerous clubs), and the association football teams Fanad United and Finn Harps. Among the honours he has helped the counties collect are a Munster Senior Football Championship, a Connacht Senior Football Championship, an All-Ireland B Championship and two National Football League Division 4 titles; with clubs he has won three Donegal Senior Football Championships and one Clare Senior Football Championship and reached the semi-finals of the All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship. Manus Kelly
Manus "Mandy" Kelly (9 February 1978 – 23 June 2019) was an Irish rally driver, businessman, and local politician. As a rally driver, he participated in the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and won the Donegal International Rally on three consecutive occasions, in 2016, 2017, and 2018. As a businessman, he ran a Letterkenny-based facilities management company and a local café, employing dozens of people in the community. As a Fianna Fáil politician, he ran in the local elections of 24 May 2019 and won a seat on Donegal County Council. Kelly was killed in a crash on 23 June 2019 while competing in the 2019 Donegal International Rally. Gary McFadden
Gary 'Copper' McFadden (born 1980s) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Glenswilly and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team. He was a panel member when Donegal won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He normally plays as a midfielder or half forward. Early life McFadden was educated at St Eunan's College in Letterkenny. Manus McFadden, so crucial in the foundation of Glenswilly's GAA club, is his uncle, as he is also the uncle of Glenswilly player Kealan McFadden. James Pat McDaid
James Pat McDaid (born 1980s) is an Irish sportsman and politician. A Gaelic footballer, he has played for and captained the Glenswilly senior team. Born to James and Peggy (née McDermott of Termon), McDaid has four siblings: Barry, Nicola, Aisling and Mark. He grew up at Glenkeeragh, Glenswilly, attended Glenswilly National School and St Eunan's College in Letterkenny, then studied Sustainable Building Technology at Institute of Technology, Sligo. McDaid has won two Donegal Senior Football Championships (2011 and 2013). He scored a point in the 2011 final and captained the team during the 2013 final. Neil Gallagher (Donegal Gaelic Footballer)
Neil Gallagher (born 1982/3) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for Glenswilly and the Donegal county team. He tended to play for his county at midfield, from 2004 until his injury-enforced retirement in 2017. He won two All Stars, one All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, three Ulster Senior Football Championships and one National Football League. He was team captain when Donegal won the National Football League title in 2007. Gallagher's haul of Ulster Senior Football Championships was a joint county team record (alongside such past players as Anthony Molloy, Martin McHugh, Joyce McMullan and Donal Reid) for four years until Patrick McBrearty, Neil McGee, Paddy McGrath, Leo McLoone, Frank McGlynn, Michael Murphy and Anthony Thompson surpassed it in 2018. 2007 National Football League (Ireland)
The 2007 National Football League was the Gaelic football league, contested by 32 GAA counties football teams, 31 from Ireland (as Kilkenny don't compete) and London from England. Due to the extended reshuffling of the structure for the 2008 campaign, survival in Divisions 1A and 1B, was much more precarious—with four relegation places in these divisions, the bottom two teams were relegated to Division 3, and the teams finishing in 5th place and 6th places were relegated to Division 2. Gary McDaid
Gary McDaid is a Gaelic football manager, referee and former player. He has three DSFCs: twice as manager (2011, 2013) and once as coach to Michael Canning (2016). Club While overseeing Glenswilly, he has led that team to two Donegal Senior Football Championships ( 2011 and 2013). They also won the 2013 All-County Football League Division Two title. He took a year off in 2012. He was part of Michael Canning's backroom team in 2016 as Glenswilly won their third county title. He played with the reserves that year.
