Glendo State Park
Glendo State Park is a public recreation area surrounding Glendo Reservoir on the North Platte River in Platte County, Wyoming, Platte and Converse County, Wyoming, Converse counties in Wyoming in the United States. The state park is located near the town of Glendo, Wyoming, Glendo, about southeast of the city of Douglas, Wyoming, Douglas. The park offers of mountain bike trails, multiple camping areas totaling more than 500 campsites, plus fishing and other water activities with the reservoir producing several state record-size fish. The park is managed by the Wyoming Division of State Parks and Historic Sites. History The Glendo dam, power plant and reservoir were constructed between 1954 and 1958. In June 1959, the Wyoming Parks Commission formed a contract with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation for the administration and development of facilities for recreational purposes at Glendo Reservoir. Glendo, Wyoming
Glendo is a town in Platte County, Wyoming, United States. The population was 205 at the 2010 census. History The town was incorporated in 1922. The California Trail, Oregon Trail and Mormon Trail passed south of Glendo. The Overland Stage Line also passed south of Glendo. It was in a cabin near the town that William L. Carlisle, one of America's last train robbers, was captured in December 1919 after a shoot-out with the posse pursuing him. On August 21, 2017, Glendo was directly in the middle of the path of a total solar eclipse, the first over the continental United States since 1979. Glendo Reservoir
Glendo Reservoir is a reservoir located on the North Platte River in Platte County and Converse County in the U.S. State of Wyoming. The reservoir is formed by Glendo Dam. The earthfill dam is feet long and high and contains two hydroelectric turbines capable of generating 38 megawatts of power. The reservoir retains a maximum of of water used primarily for irrigation and flood control. The reservoir is popular for water sports and fishing. It is located completely within Glendo State Park. Converse County, Wyoming
Converse County is a county located in the U.S. state of Wyoming. As of the 2020 United States Census, the population was 13,751. Its county seat is Douglas. History Converse County was created in 1888 by the legislature of the Wyoming Territory, of area annexed from Albany and Laramie counties. Converse County was named for A.R. Converse, a banker and rancher from Cheyenne, Wyoming, who was co-owner with Francis E. Warren in a large ranch in the eastern part of Converse County. A portion of Converse County territory was annexed for the formation of Niobrara County in 1911.
