Giuseppe Pedretti
Giuseppe Pedretti (26 February 1697 – 27 May 1778) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque or Rococo period, active mainly in Bologna. Biography Born in Bologna, at the age of 15, he began training, despite the opposition of his family, under Carlo Antonio Rambaldi. When Rambaldi left for Turin in 1714, he moved to work under Marcantonio Franceschini and his son Giacomo Franceschini. he stayed in that studio till 1729. In 1729, he moved for three years to Poland, to paint for the House of Rzewuski in Lviv, where he completed a number of portraits and frescoes on sacred subjects for the Carmelite Church. After a spell in Mantua, Sabbioneta, and Viadana, between 1726 and 1727, he was commissioned by Antonio Cavazza to paint ''Joseph retrieves the Silver Cup from Benjamin's Bag'' (now in Credito Romagnolo, Palazzo Magnani, Bologna). The Accademia di Belle Arti di Bologna ("academy of fine arts of Bologna") is a public tertiary academy of fine art in Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy. It has a campus in Cesena. Giorgio Morandi taught engraving at the Accademia for more than 25 years. History Background The earliest art academy documented in Bologna was the Accademia dei Desiderosi, later known as the Accademia degli Incamminati, founded in or before 1582 by Ludovico, Agostino and Annibale Carracci, and sometimes known also as the Accademia dei Carracci. Anna Morandi Manzolini (21 January 1714 – 9 July 1774) was an internationally known anatomist and anatomical wax modeler, as lecturer of anatomical design at the University of Bologna. Life Morandi was born in 1714 in Bologna, Italy. She was raised in a traditional home where marriage, children, and a domestic lifestyle were natural choices for women. Women were expected to be wives, raise their children and essentially tend to their husbands needs and wants. This wasn’t the case for Anna Morandi. She became a wife and had children, but instead of tending to her husband, she worked side by side with him. In 1736, Morandi married her childhood sweetheart, Giovanni Manzolini, a professor of anatomy at the University of Bologna. She was 20, and he was 24 years old. The remains of Saint Dominic, founder of the Order of Preachers ( Dominicans), are buried inside the exquisite shrine Arca di San Domenico, made by Nicola Pisano and his workshop, Arnolfo di Cambio and with later additions by Niccolò dell'Arca and the young Michelangelo. San Procolo is an early Gothic-style, Roman Catholic church and former monastery-hospital located on Via Massimo D'Azeglio #52 in central Bologna, region of Emilia Romagna, Italy. History The church was erected by Benedictine Monks from the Abbey of Monte Cassino by 1087. It was dedicated to the martyred soldier Proculus of Bologna. The church and adjacent monastery remained under Benedictine rule, until 1796, when Napoleon suppressed the Benedictine order in Bologna. The Benedictine order, in addition to its contemplative activities, maintained a hostel for pilgrims. In 1297, an adjacent hospital was converted into a hospital, run by nuns of the order of ''Santa Maria degli Angioli'' or ''degl'Innocenti'', for the abandoned children.
