Giuseppe Marzotto
Giuseppe Marzotto (born 30 January 1944, in Arzignano) is a former Italian international motorcycle speedway rider. Career Marzotto began competing in scooter gymkhanas at the age of 16, riding under the pseudonym "Charlie Brown" because his parents were opposed to him entering in such events. He won the Trofeo Nazionale Gincane four times from 1966–1969. When he was 19 he took up motocross and rode until 1974 before deciding to focus on speedway. His first speedway meeting was at Lonigo in 1968. In 1974 he finished runnerup in the Italian Speedway Championship and the following year won the title. In 1976 he joined the Wolverhampton Wolves and rode in 11 meetings in the British League. In 1977 he rode in Germany for the MSC Olching Club. He later rode for the Moto Club La Favorita. During his career he won the Italian Championship five times and represented Italy in team and best pairs events. He also rode in Argentina and New Zealand. Wolverhampton Wolves
Wolverhampton Wolves are a British speedway team based in Wolverhampton, England. They are sponsored by Parry's International Travel, and signed a deal with owner Dave Parry (previous speedway rider for the Wolverhampton Wolves) for the 2008 season onwards. The team is managed by Peter Adams and the promoter of the club is Chris Van Straaten. History 1928–1960 The club was founded in 1928 racing at Monmore Green Stadium, and after a brief flirtation with speedway, saw its last pre-war meeting in 1930. It was 20 years later that the sport returned to the town. During 1948 and the post-war optimism, record crowds were attending speedway events up and down the country. With towns keen to cash in on the boom, Wolverhampton's stadium owners applied to the local council for a track to be re-built at the original site. Motorcycle speedway, usually referred to simply as speedway, is a motorcycle sport involving four and sometimes up to six riders competing over four anti-clockwise laps of an oval circuit. Armando Castagna
Armando Castagna (born 22 September 1963) is a former Italian international motorcycle speedway rider. He was born in Arzignano, and was a member of the Italy national team and has represented them in several World Team Cup competitions. He is a record 12 times Italian Champion. Career He rode in the United Kingdom for the Ipswich Witches and Oxford Cheetahs but he spent the majority of his career with the Reading Racers where he won the British League title twice. He has ridden in the Speedway Grand Prix series and has reached five Speedway World Championship finals. On 26 July 1997 he won the Continental Final, which formed part of the 1998 Speedway Grand Prix Qualification. Speedway World Championship
The World Championship of Speedway is an international competition between the highest-ranked motorcycle speedway riders of the world, run under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). The first official championships were held in 1936. Today, this official FIM championship is organised as a series of Speedway Grand Prix events, where points are awarded according to performance in the event and tallied up at the end of each season. However, up to 1994, it was run as a single-night event after qualifying rounds during the season, leading up to a big final of 20 heats, where points were awarded according to riders' heat placings and then tallied up at the end.
