Giuseppe Camino
Giuseppe Camino (1818-1890) was an Italian painter, mainly of landscapes and vedute. Biography A young man he painted an altarpiece for church of Rocciamelone depicting ''St Vincent of Paoli'' and a ''Via Crucis'' for the Convent of the Visitation in Turin. He trained under Giuseppe Bogliani and Angelo Beccaria. He worked on scenography for the Teatro Regio of Turin. He painted landscapes of the Roman Campagna (circa 1845), vedute of Paris and London (1851), and many alpine landscapes of this native Piedmont. A ''veduta'' (Italian for "view"; plural ''vedute'') is a highly detailed, usually large-scale painting or, more often, print of a cityscape or some other vista. The painters of ''vedute'' are referred to as ''vedutisti''. Origins This genre of landscape originated in Flanders, where artists such as Paul Bril painted ''vedute'' as early as the 16th century. In the 17th century, Dutch painters made a specialty of detailed and accurate recognizable city and landscapes that appealed to the sense of local pride of the wealthy Dutch middle class. An archetypal example is Johannes Vermeer's ''View of Delft''. The Ghent architect, draughtsman and engraver Lieven Cruyl (1640–1720) contributed to the development of the ''vedute'' during his residence in Rome in the late 17th century. Rocciamelone
Rocciamelone ( pms, Ròcia-mlon, french: Rochemelon or ''Roche Melon'') is a 3,538 m high mountain in Piedmont, Italy, near the border between Italy and France. Geography Rocciamelone is located between Val di Susa and Maurienne, 50 km west of Turin. Its summit is the tripoint where the comunes of Usseglio, Novalesa and Mompantero meet. The international border crosses the ''Glacier de Rochemelon'' 1 kilometer north of the summit, making it appear that the border is not following the watershed precisely in this sector. However, the glacier is draped over a ridge that is the true watershed and is precisely followed by the borderline. Angelo Beccaria
Angelo Beccaria (May 1820 in Turin – 1897) was an Italian landscape painter active in the Piedmont. Since the age of 18, he trained in the Accademia Albertina The Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti ("Albertina Academy of Fine Arts") is an institution of higher education in Turin, Italy History In the first half of the seventeenth century, there was a "University of Painters, Sculptors and Architects" ... under Giovanni Battista Biscarra. Teatro Regio (Turin)
The Teatro Regio (Royal Theatre) is a prominent opera house and opera company in Turin, Piedmont, Italy. Its season runs from October to June with the presentation of eight or nine operas given from five to twelve performances of each. Several buildings provided venues for operatic productions in Turin from the mid-16th century, but it was not until 1713 that a proper opera house was considered, and under the architect Filippo Juvarra planning began. However, the cornerstone was not laid until the reign of Charles Emmanuel III in 1738 after Juvarra's death. The work was supervised by Benedetto Alfieri until the theatre was completed and decorated by Bernardino Galliari. Agliè (Piedmontese: ''Ajé'') is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region Piedmont, located about north of Turin.
