Gisela Uhlen
Gisela Uhlen (16 May 1919 – 16 January 2007) was a German film actress and occasional screen writer. Biography Uhlen was born Gisela Friedlinde Schreck (German national library entry) in Leipzig, Germany as fourth child of Luise Frieda and distillery owner and former opera singer Augustin Schreck. At the Leipziger Konservatorium she enrolled in a modern dance class, and learnt classical ballet and acrobatics at the opera school. At 15 she decided to become a theatre actress and chose the stage-name Gisela Uhlen. After her final examination as a dancer and during her training period she married ballet teacher Herbert Freund. At 17 she appeared for the first time at the ''Schauspielhaus Bochum''. In 1938 Heinrich George brought her to the Berliner Schiller-Theater, where she was active until the end of the war. ''Dance on the Volcano'' (German: ''Tanz auf dem Vulkan'') is a 1938 German historical musical comedy film directed by Hans Steinhoff and starring Gustaf Gründgens, Sybille Schmitz and Ralph Arthur Roberts. It was shot at the Johannisthal Studios in Berlin. The film's sets were designed by the art director Rochus Gliese. A light-hearted costume film the production was a significant departure for both its director, best known for his Nazi-supporting propaganda films, and its star Gründgens, celebrated as a classical actor. It made significant changes to the historical story, including turning Jean-Gaspard Deburau from a mime into a singer. Susanne Uhlen (; born Susanne Kieling; January 17, 1955) is a German actress. She is the daughter of actor Wolfgang Kieling and actress Gisela Uhlen, niece to German actor Max Schreck of ''Nosferatu'' fame. Career Uhlen began her acting career by doing acting spots in Television advertisement, commercials as a child, and appeared in The Murderer with the Silk Scarf, her first film at age 9. As a child, she changed schools each year, as her mother constantly had to relocate to keep up with acting commitments. At 16 she married a fellow student, but her mother became involved and ended the marriage. She then married cameraman Charly Steinberger, with whom she had one son. Wolfgang Kieling
Wolfgang Kieling (16 March 1924 – 7 October 1985) was a German actor. Biography In films since childhood in his native Germany, Kieling appeared in a few American films, notably in Alfred Hitchcock's ''Torn Curtain'' (1966), where he played Gromek, an East German agent brutally slain by Paul Newman's character. He also played Gromek's brother in a scene that was deleted from the final print. Kieling had a small role in '' $'' (aka, ''The Heist'', 1971), starring Warren Beatty. In a British film, '' Amsterdam Affair'' (1968), he portrayed the fictional Dutch detective Van der Valk several years before Barry Foster (another Hitchcock alumnus) was cast in the same role for the British TV series. Hans Bertram (26 February 1906 – 8 January 1993) was a German aviator, screenwriter and film director. Biography Early life Hans Bertram was born on 26 February 1906 in Remscheid, Germany. Career During 1920, Bertram trained under flying instructor Paul Bäumer, a noted German aviator of World War I, at Hamburg Fuhlsbuttel Airport. From 1927, Bertram was an aviation advisor to the government of the Republic of China and was involved in establishing its naval aviation service. When Bertram piloted a Junkers W 33 seaplane on an around-the world flight during 1932, he became lost over a sparsely-populated part of the Kimberley region of Western Australia and made a forced landing. Bertram and mechanic Adolf Klausmann were rescued and hospitalised in Perth. Klausmann suffered significant long-term psychological effects from their ordeal.
