Giovanni Gastel
Giovanni Gastel (27 December 1955 – 13 March 2021) was an Italian photographer. Biography Giovanni Gastel began to approach photography in the early 1970s. In 1981, he started working for numerous fashion magazines, including ''Vogue'', ''Elle'', and '' Vanity Fair;'' he also collaborated with world-famous brands such as Dior, Trussardi, Krizia, Tod's, and Versace. During these years of intense professional commitment, he began to develop his personal style, characterized by a poetic irony. His passion for art history led him to introduce a taste for balanced composition into photographs. His references are to Pop Art and Irving Penn's photographic work. From 15 September 2020 to 05 March 2021, the MAXXI Museum in Rome presented the exhibition “Giovanni Gastel, The People I Like”. COVID-19 Pandemic In Italy
The COVID-19 pandemic in Italy is part of the ongoing pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 () caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (). The virus was first confirmed to have spread to Italy on 31 January 2020, when two Chinese tourists in Rome tested positive for the virus. One week later an Italian man repatriated to Italy from the city of Wuhan, China, was hospitalized and confirmed as the third case in Italy. Clusters of cases were later detected in Lombardy and Veneto on 21 February, with the first deaths on 22 February. By the beginning of March, the virus had spread to all regions of Italy. On 31 January, the Italian government suspended all flights to and from China and declared a state of emergency. Irving Penn (June 16, 1917October 7, 2009) was an American photographer known for his fashion photography, portraits, and still lifes. Penn's career included work at ''Vogue'' magazine, and independent advertising work for clients including Issey Miyake and Clinique. His work has been exhibited internationally and continues to inform the art of photography. Early life and education Penn was born to a Russian Jewish family on June 16, 1917 in Plainfield, New Jersey, to Harry Penn and Sonia Greenberg. Penn's younger brother, Arthur Penn, was born in 1922 and would go on to become a film director and producer. Penn attended Abraham Lincoln High School where he studied graphic design with Leon Friend. Penn attended the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art (now the University of the Arts) from 1934 to 1938, where he studied drawing, painting, graphics, and industrial arts under Alexey Brodovitch.
