A.O. Giouchtas F.C., short for Athlitikos Omilos Archanes “Giouchtas” ( el, Αθλητικός Όμιλος Αρχανών “ο Γιούχτας”, translated ''Athletic Club of Archanes “Giouchtas”'') and also known simply as Giouchtas, is a Greek football club, based in Archanes, Heraklion. The club is named after Mount Juktas, overlooking the town of Archanes. The club was founded in 1957 and its traditional colors are green and white. They currently compete in the Gamma Ethniki, the third tier of the Greek football league system, and host their home games in the Archanes National Stadium, known also as “Markomichelakio Stadium”. The Gamma Ethniki ( el, Γ΄ Εθνική Ερασιτεχνική Κατηγορία, C National Amateur Division) is the third highest football league in Greece. History The Gamma Ethniki began in 1965 as an amateur championship, while in 1983 it was changed to professional. Although not literally national (it is divided into ''North'' and ''South'' groups), Football League 2 is considered as a national division. On 3 August 2010, it was announced that the division had been renamed ''Football League 2''. The 2023–24 Super League 2, known as Super League 2 betsson for sponsorship reasons, is the fifth season of the Super League 2, the second-tier Greek professional league for association football clubs, since the restructuring of the Greek football league system. Archanes
Archanes ( el, Αρχάνες, Godart & Olivier abbreviation: ARKH) is a former municipality in the Heraklion regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Archanes-Asterousia, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of . Population 5,042 (2011). It is also the archaeological site of an ancient Minoan settlement in central Crete. A mountain in north-central Crete, Mount Juktas ( el, Γιούχτας - ''Giouchtas''), also spelled Iuktas, Iouktas, or Ioukhtas, was an important religious site for the Minoan civilization. 2022–23 Gamma Ethniki
The 2022–23 Gamma Ethniki is the 40th season since the official establishment of the championship in 1983, and the second after the reestablishment as the 3rd tier of the Greek Football. The competition is about to start on 13 November 2022, and will be conducted in five groups, in contrast to 2021–22 season, when it was conducted in seven groups. The groups were formed according to geographical criteria. After all games of the five groups are played, the champion of each group qualifies for a playoff round, from which the top four clubs will be promoted to Super League 2.
