Giordano International Limited is a Hong Kong international retailer of men's, women's and children's apparel and accessories founded in 1981 by Jimmy Lai. Established in 1981, Giordano now employs over 9,100 staff with over 2,100 shops operating in more than 30 countries and regions worldwide. Its head office is in the Tin On Industrial Building, Cheung Sha Wan, Kowloon. History Giordano was founded in 1981 by Jimmy Lai. Lai said the inspiration for the company's name came during a business trip to New York City. Lai found himself at a Manhattan pizza shop by the same name and woke up the next day to find a napkin printed with the Giordano name in his pocket. He decided this name would work well as it would conjure up visions and feel of Italian fashion in the consumer's mind. Cheung Sha Wan
Cheung Sha Wan is an area between Lai Chi Kok and Sham Shui Po in New Kowloon, Hong Kong. It is mainly residential to the north and south, with an industrial area in between. Administratively it is part of Sham Shui Po District, which also includes Lai Chi Kok. History As its Chinese name suggests, it was formerly a bay with a long sandy beach. It spans roughly from today's Butterfly Valley Road at the west to Yen Chow Street at the east. The beach was a gathering place for many Tanka fishermen before its development. Lai Chee-ying ( zh, link=no, t=黎智英, born 8 December 1947), also known as Jimmy Lai, is a Hong Kong busniessman and a politician. He founded Giordano, an Asian clothing retailer, Next Digital (formerly Next Media), a Hong Kong-listed media company, and the popular newspaper ''Apple Daily''. He is one of the main contributors to the pro-democracy camp, especially to the Democratic Party. Although he is known as a Hong Kong political figure, he has been a UK national since 1996. Lai is also an art collector.
