Gil Gomes
Nélson Gil de Almeida Gomes (born 2 December 1972), known as Gil, is a Portuguese former footballer who played as a forward. Football career Born in Luanda, Portuguese Angola, Gil moved to Portugal at a young age, joining S.L. Benfica's youth system at the age of 14. He excelled at the 1991 FIFA World Youth Championship with the Portuguese under-20 team, scoring one goal in five matches as the tournament ended in victory. At senior level, however, his Primeira Liga input consisted of 30 games over two seasons, not being able to find the net with S.C. Braga and C.F. Estrela da Amadora. After leaving his adopted nation in 1995 and until his retirement ten years later – he had already had an abroad spell with Tours FC in France – Gil played all but exclusively in lower league and amateur football. Adilson Angel Abreu de Almeida Gomes (born 31 August 2000) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Ligue 1 club Lille and the England under-21 national team. He began his career with Manchester United at the age of six and progressed through the club's academy. When he made his first-team debut in May 2017, he became the youngest player to play for Manchester United since Duncan Edwards in 1953, as well as the first player born in the 2000s to appear in the Premier League. He made 10 appearances across four seasons for the Manchester United first-team, before being released at the end of his contract in 2020. The Primeira Liga (; English: Premier League, also written as Liga Portugal 1), also known as Liga Portugal Bwin for sponsorship reasons, is the top level of the Portuguese football league system. Organised and supervised by the Liga Portugal, it is contested by 18 teams since the 2014–15 season, with the three lowest placed teams relegated to the Liga Portugal 2 and replaced by the top-three non-reserve teams from this division. UEFA European Under-17 Championship
The UEFA European Under-17 Championship or simply UEFA Under-17 Championship, is an annual football competition contested by the European men's under-17 national teams of the member associations of UEFA. Spain is the most successful team in this competition, having won nine titles. France are the current champions. History and format The current competition format consists of three stages: a qualifying round, an elite round and a final tournament. The first stage takes place in autumn of the previous year, while the elite round is played in spring. The winners of each elite round group join the host team in the final tournament, played in May. Until the 1997 tournament, players born on or after 1 August the year they turned 17 years were eligible to compete. Since the 1998 tournament, the date limit has been moved back to 1 January. 1989 FIFA U-16 World Championship
The 1989 FIFA U-16 World Championship, the third edition of the tournament, was held in the Scottish cities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Aberdeen, and Dundee between 10 June and 24 June 1989. Players born after 1 August 1972 could participate in this tournament. Saudi Arabia won the tournament and became the first Asian team to win a FIFA tournament. As of December 2022, they are the only Asian men's team to win any FIFA tournament. The winning team was later accused of fielding several over-age players, but no formal investigation was conducted.
