Football At The Central American And Caribbean Games
Association football is one of the sports played at the Central American and Caribbean Games, a quadrennial multi-sports event for countries in those regions. The Games can involve eligible national teams from two football confederations, CONCACAF and CONMEBOL. A men's tournament was first held in the second edition of the Games in 1930. The first women's event was held in 2010. In 2010, only a women's tournament was played, but both men's and women's events have been held in subsequent editions. 2021 Leagues Cup
The 2021 Leagues Cup was the second edition of the Leagues Cup organized by Major League Soccer and the Mexican Football Federation. The tournament was originally planned to include sixteen teams but was later reduced to eight teams. The 2020 edition of the tournament was canceled in May 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in North America. In the final, León defeated Seattle Sounders FC 3–2 to win their first title. The Leagues Cup is an annual association football competition between clubs from Major League Soccer and Liga MX in North America. It debuted in July 2019 with four teams participating from each league. The first edition was a single-elimination tournament hosted in the United States with a final played in Las Vegas on September 18, 2019. The 2020–21 Liga MX season (known as the Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons) was the 74th professional season of the top-flight football league in Mexico. The season was divided into two championships—the Torneo Guardianes 2020 and the Torneo Guardianes 2021—each in an identical format and each contested by the same eighteen teams. The 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games football tournament is scheduled to be the 20th edition of the competition at the 21st edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games. It will be the first CAC Games football competition to take since 2006 due to the cancellation of the 2010 edition. Although the competition is considered to be an under-21 age group competition, up to three players born before 1 January 1993 may be named in the squad.
