Club de Fútbol América S.A. de C.V., commonly known as Club América or simply América, is a professional football club based in Mexico City. Nicknamed ''Las Águilas'' (The Eagles), it competes in Liga MX, the top tier of Mexican football. The club was founded in 1916, and since 1959 has been owned by media company Televisa. The team plays its home games at the Estadio Azteca, the largest stadium in Latin America, and one of the largest stadiums in the world. América is one of the founding members of the Primera División. The club has a long-standing rivalry with Guadalajara, as both are the most successful and most popular teams in the country, and are the only clubs to have never been relegated. Estadio Azteca () is a multi-purpose stadium located in Mexico City. It is the official home of football clubs Club América and Cruz Azul as well as the Mexico national football team. The stadium sits at an altitude of above sea level. With an official capacity of 87,523, it is the largest stadium in Mexico and Latin America. Germania Fußball-Verein was a football club based in Mexico City that played in the México Primera División from 1915 to 1933. History Beginnings The club was founded in 1915 in a German immigrant community in Mexico City. The founders were Edvard Giffenig, Germán Stuht, Richard Obert, Walter Mues, and Carl Mues. In their first years the club mostly finished last or close to the bottom of the standings. In 1920, the Mexican federation split the tournament into two leagues: the national and the Mexican leagues. Real Club España is a Mexican sports club located in Mexico City. The Liga Mexicana de Fútbol Amateur Association, known as the Primera Fuerza, was an amateur football league founded in Mexico in 1902 with five clubs: " Orizaba A.C.", " Pachuca A.C.", " Reforma A.C.", "Mexico Cricket Club" and " British Club". Orizaba won the league in its inaugural year. A total of 37 teams took part in this league from 1902 until 1943, when football in Mexico went professional. History Prior to the Liga Mayor, there was no national football league in Mexico and football competitions were held within relatively small geographical regions. Rafael Garza Gutiérrez (13 December 1896 – 3 July 1974), nicknamed "Récord", was a Mexican football player and coach. He, along with other members of the Garza family, are recognized as the founders of Club América. He was a defender for that club as well as the Selección de fútbol de México (Mexico national team). Upon retiring, he took the reins of his beloved club as an executive and later served as the national team manager on four separate occasions.. He is an Olympian. The International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) is an organisation that chronicles the history and records of association football. It was founded in 1984 by Alfredo Pöge in Leipzig. The IFFHS was based in Abu Dhabi for some time but, in 2010, relocated to Bonn, Germany, and then in 2014 to Zürich. From its early stages to 2002, the IFFHS concentrated on publishing the quarterly magazines ''Fußball-Weltzeitschrift'', ''Libero spezial deutsch'' and ''Libero international''.
