Gijs Van Hall
Gijsbert van Hall (21 April 1904 – 22 May 1977) was a Dutch banker, resistance member and senator. He was Mayor of Amsterdam between 1957 and 1967. Early life & banking career Gijs van Hall was born in Amsterdam in an influential Dutch family of bankers. At a young age, much of his early school career was interrupted due to infections of tuberculosis. Between 1923 and 1928 he studied law at the University of Leiden. In 1928 Van Hall went to work at the American investment firm Kean, Taylor & co., a temporary assignment where he hoped to gain experience with the financial system that he could use back home. He worked on Wall Street in New York City for three years before returning to the Netherlands to work at the Nederlandse Trust Maatschappij. During much of the 1930's, he was involved in guiding debt restructuring procedures caused by the Great Depression. Gijsbertus "Gijs" Steinmann (born 2 April 1961) is a Dutch former professional footballer who played as a defender. Career Steinmann played club football for AZ, Den Bosch, Utrecht and Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie. During his career he was known for his outspoken nature, and had conflicts with managers. Steinmann ended his career after the 1995–96 season at Go Ahead Eagles, after he had been demoted from the first team by head coach Ab Fafié. Gijs Luirink (, born 12 September 1983 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a centre back. He is a former Dutch under-21 international. Career He began his career at FC Volendam, making 57 league appearances for the club. In 2004, the club was relegated to the Eerste Divisie, and Luirink moved to FC Groningen. Johannes Gijsbrecht Kuenen (born 9 December 1940, Heemstede) is a Dutch microbiologist who is professor emeritus at the Delft University of Technology and a visiting scientist at the University of Southern California. His research is influenced by, and a contribution to, the scientific tradition of the Delft School of Microbiology. Kuenen studied at the University of Groningen, where he received both his Doctorandus degree and in 1972 his Doctorate (PhD) under the supervision of Professor Dr. Hans Veldkamp. Gijs van Heumen (born 23 July 1952) is a retired field hockey coach from the Netherlands. He was in charge of the Dutch National Women's Team from 1980 to 1989, bringing it to one Olympic (1984), two world (1983 and 1986) and two European titles (1984 and 1987); the 1980 Games were boycotted by the Netherlands, whereas in 1988 the women's team won bronze. Van Heumen's father Wim coached the national men's field hockey team between 1975 and 1986. Gijs Van Hoecke (born 12 November 1991) is a Belgian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . Career In 2011, when he was 19 years old, he was selected to participate at the Track Cycling World Championships, where he won the bronze medal in the Men's omnium. One year later, at the World Championships in Melbourne, he finished ninth in the same event and became Madison World Champion.
