Gijs Broeksma
Gijs Broeksma (born 10 December 1999) is a Dutch archer. He competes in recurve archery and is right-handed. He competed in Archery at the 2020 Summer Olympics where he as a part of Dutch team reached fourth place together with his teammates Sjef van den Berg en Steve Wijler. In the individual tournament he reached 14th place in qualifications. Broeksma won in the knock-out phase and the 32nd finals but eventually lost in 16th finals after a shoot-off with 6-5 from de Takaharu Furukawa of Japan. Broeksma was raised in Ruinen, Netherlands and currently lives in Arnhem where he trains at National Sports Centre Papendal Olympic Training Centre Papendal is the national training centre of the Netherlands, located in the Veluwe woods from Arnhem. National Sports Centre Papendal
Olympic Training Centre Papendal is the national training centre of the Netherlands, located in the Veluwe woods from Arnhem. Papendal is the home base of NOC*NSF and football club SBV Vitesse. The soccer fields are also being used as training ground by Vitesse's first team squad. Around 550 top athletes use the facilities of Papendal, 400 on a daily basis. Ruinen
Ruinen is a village in the Dutch province of Drenthe. It is located in the municipality of De Wolden, about 10 km northwest of Hoogeveen. The Dwingelderveld National Park is located near Ruinen. History The village was first mentioned in 1139 as de Runa. The etymology is unknown. Ruinen is an ''esdorp'' from the Early Middle Ages. Around 1140, a double monastery of the Benedictines was founded in Ruinen, however they moved to De Wijk in 1325. The Dutch Reformed has been built in the 15th century replacing and reusing the monastery church of which dated from around 1140. The tower was built in 1423. The spire has been renewed in 1660 after it had been damaged by a storm, and the crown was replaced in 1952. Between 1972 and 1975, the church was restored to its original form before 1836.
