Gian Lorenzo Berti (Traversi)
''Gian Lorenzo Berti'' is a portrait painting Neapolitan Italian Rococo painter Gaspare Traversi. It is on display in the Musée des Beaux-Arts of Strasbourg, France. Its inventory number is 182. The painting depicts the Augustinian theologian Giovanni Lorenzo Berti (also known as Gianlorenzo Berti, or Gian Lorenzo Berti), and was painted in Rome between 1754 and 1756. It was bought for the museum in 1890 by Wilhelm von Bode, from the collection of , together with Ribera's ''Saint Peter and Saint Paul''. On account of its severity and its stateliness, this 18th-century portrait painting was at first thought to be a work by the 17th-century painter Andrea Sacchi, who had in fact preceded Traversi by several generations. Roberto Longhi
Roberto Longhi (28 December 1890 – 3 June 1970) was an Italian academic, art historian, and curator. The main subjects of his studies were the painters Caravaggio and Piero della Francesca. Early life and career Longhi was born in December 1890 in Alba in Piedmont. His parents were from Emilia. He studied with Pietro Toesca, in Turin, and Adolfo Venturi in Rome. The latter made him book reviews editor of the journal ''L'Arte'' in 1914. Andrea Sacchi
Andrea Sacchi (30 November 159921 June 1661) was an Italian painter of High Baroque Classicism, active in Rome. A generation of artists who shared his style of art include the painters Nicolas Poussin and Giovanni Battista Passeri, the sculptors Alessandro Algardi and François Duquesnoy, and the contemporary biographer Giovanni Bellori. Early training Sacchi was born in Rome. His father, Benedetto, was an undistinguished painter.
