Giacomo Boni (painter)
Giacomo Boni (28 April 1688 – 7 January 1766) was an Italian painter of the late-Baroque period, active mainly in Genoa. Biography He was born in Bologna, and became a pupil of Marcantonio Franceschini, and later of the painter Carlo Cignani in Forlì. He returned and followed Franceschini to Genoa, then Crema, Piacenza, Lavino di Mezzo, Parma, and then Rome. He painted canvases for chapels in the church of San Filippo Neri in Genoa, and frescoes for their oratory chapter house. In Crema, he painted for the Chiesa del Carmine. In Piacenza, he painted in the church of Santa Maria del Popolo. He returned to Genoa in 1726, where he painted alongside Tommaso Aldrovandini in the Palazzo Durazzo. He painted the choir of San Pancrazio for the noble family of the Pallavicini. Luigi Crespi
Luigi Crespi (January 23, 1708 – July 2, 1779) was an Italian painter, and art merchant and historian. He was the son of the prominent Bolognese painter, Giuseppe Maria Crespi. Biography He trained with his father and completed a few altarpieces, including for the churches of San Sigismondo in Bologna, San Bartolomeo della Buona Morte in Finale Emilia, the parish church of Bastiglia in the Province of Modena, and a "Madonna del Rosario" for the Sanctuary of Valdibrana in Pistoia. in 1748, he was nominated canon of the Collegiata di Santa Maria Maggiore in Bologna. Two years later he became an assistant to Cardinal Lambertini, later Pope Benedict XIV. he traveled to Dresden in 1751–1753. upon returning to Bologna, he worked in the re-issuing and editing of the Carlo Cesare Malvasia's Biographies of Bolognese artists, published in 1753, and titled ''Felsina pittrice''. Tommaso Aldrovandini
Tommaso Aldrovandini (21 December 1653 – 23 October 1736) was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. He mainly painted perspective views and architectural subjects (quadratura), in which the figures were painted by Marcantonio Franceschini and Carlo Cignani. He decorated churches, palaces, and theaters in Forlì, Verona, Venice, Parma, Turin, Ferrara, and Genoa, and especially in his native Bologna. Among his pupils was Giovanni Benedetto Paolazzi. Biography He was born in Bologna on December 21, 1653, son of the painter Giuseppe. He was the main painter among his family and the one who left the greatest number of works. Introduced to the world of art by his uncle Mauro, he attended the academy of Cesare Gennari and then that of C. Cignani. Thomas Roscoe
Thomas Roscoe (Liverpool 23 June 1791 – 24 September 1871 London) was an English author and translator. Life The fifth son of William Roscoe, he was born in Toxteth Park, Liverpool in 1791, and educated by Dr. W. Shepherd and by Mr. Lloyd, a private tutor. Soon after his father's financial troubles in 1816, which led to bankruptcy, Roscoe began to write in local magazines and journals, and he continued to follow literature as a profession. San Giovanni Evangelista (Parma)
San Giovanni Evangelista is a church in Parma, northern Italy, part of a complex also including a Benedictine convent and grocery. History Works for the abbey and church were started in the 10th century over a pre-existing oratory associated with St. Colombanus. In 1477 the whole complex was damaged by a fire. The abbey basilica was rebuilt from around 1490, with the present design by Bernardino Zaccagni dating from 1510. The construction ended around 1519. The design included since the beginning a thoroughly painting decoration of the interior, and a contract had been signed with the young Correggio, who a had already worked in another Benedictine monastery, in the Camera della Badessa of San Paolo.
