Ghana Union Movement
The Ghana Union Movement is a political party in Ghana. It was founded by Christian Kwabena Andrews who is also the founder of the Life Assembly Worship Center in Accra. During the launch of the party, he declared that he is "new Kwame Nkrumah" and also that the "spirit of Nkrumah is back." The party's agenda received some backing from Samia Nkrumah, daughter of Kwame Nkrumah. 2020 general election Andrews is one of the presidential candidates for the 2020 Ghanaian general election. He filed his nomination papers on 7 October 2020. On completion of the registration process, his name came third from the top on the ballot paper. Andrew nominated Abu Grant Lukeman as his running mate for the election. Christian Kwabena Andrews
Christian Kwabena Andrews who is popularly called ''Osofo Kyiri Abosom'' is a Ghanaian priest and politician. Politics Andrews launched the Ghana Union Movement (GUM) in March 2019. During the event, he described himself as the new Kwame Nkrumah and declared that the "spirit of Nkrumah is back". He hoped to be able to break the duopoly between the National Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party which have dominated Ghana during the Fourth Republic. 2020 Pandemic Andrews was keen to have as limited a lockdown period as possible during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Parliament of Ghana is the legislative body of the Government of Ghana. History Legislative representation in Ghana dates back to 1850, when the country was a British colony known as Gold Coast. The body, called the Legislative Council, was purely advisory as the Governor exercised all legislative and executive powers. Reforms were introduced in 1916 and 1925, although the governor's power remained extensive. In 1946, a new constitution was introduced that allowed for an unofficial member of the Legislative Council to become its president while the governor ceased to be the ''ex officio'' president of the body. Kwame Nkrumah
Kwame Nkrumah (born 21 September 190927 April 1972) was a Ghanaian politician, political theorist, and revolutionary. He was the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957. An influential advocate of Pan-Africanism, Nkrumah was a founding member of the Organization of African Unity and winner of the Lenin Peace Prize from the Soviet Union in 1962. After twelve years abroad pursuing higher education, developing his political philosophy, and organizing with other diasporic pan-Africanists, Nkrumah returned to the Gold Coast to begin his political career as an advocate of national independence. Samia Nkrumah
Samia Yaba Christina Nkrumah (born 23 June 1960) is a Ghanaian politician and chairperson of the Convention People's Party (CPP). In the 2008 parliamentary election, she won the Jomoro constituency seat at her first attempt. She is the daughter of Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana. Early life and education Samia was born at Aburi in the Eastern Region of Ghana in 1960. She was forced to leave Ghana with her mother and brothers on the day of the 1966 military coup that overthrew Kwame Nkrumah. The family were resettled in Egypt by the Egyptian government. 2020 Ghanaian General Election
General elections were held in Ghana on 7 December 2020. Incumbent President Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) was re-elected in the first round after securing a majority of the votes. Former President John Dramani Mahama says he will contest the results.
