Shigeo Yaegachi
was a Japanese football player and manager. He played for Japan national team. Club career Yaegashi was born in Daejeon, Japan on March 24, 1933, but raised in Hanamaki. After playing at Chuo University, he moved to Waseda University. After graduating from Waseda University, he joined Furukawa Electric in 1958. In 1963, he was selected Japanese Footballer of the Year awards. In 1965, Furukawa Electric joined new league Japan Soccer League. He retired in 1969. He played 51 games and scored 14 goals in the league. He was also selected Best Eleven 3 times (1966, 1967 and 1968). Menachem Ashkenazi ( he, מנחם אשכנזי) (6 August 1934 – 13 November 2000) was an Israeli international football referee, born in Bulgaria, active during the 1960s and 1970s. He was the first Asian referee who officiated in a World Cup. Biography Born in 1934 in a Jewish Sephardic family in Bulgaria, in 1936 he emigrated with his parents to Mandatory Palestine. Since his childhood he played soccer and distinguished himself at 16 as a player in the youth football team of the club Hapoel Petah Tikva. But following a severe fracture of his leg, he had to stop his career as a football player. Ashkenazi had a long career as a FIFA official, supervising international matches as a referee or linesman during the period from 1961 to 1986. Football At The 1964 Summer Olympics
The football competition at the 1964 Summer Olympics started on 11 October and ended on 23 October. Only one event, the men's tournament, was contested. The tournament features 14 men's national teams from six continental confederations. The 14 teams are drawn into two groups of four and two groups of three and each group plays a round-robin tournament. At the end of the group stage, the top two teams advanced to the knockout stage, beginning with the quarter-finals and culminating with the gold medal match at the Olympic Stadium on 23 October 1964. There was also three consolation matches played by losing quarter-finalists. The winner of these matches placed fifth in the tournament. Qualification Regional qualifying tournaments were held. Valeri Vladimirovich Popenchenko (russian: Валерий Владимирович Попенченко, 26 August 1937 – 15 February 1975) was a Soviet Olympic boxer who competed in the middleweight division (−75 kg). During his career he won 200 out of 213 bouts; he won an Olympic gold medal in 1964 and European titles in 1963 and 1965. He was named the Outstanding Boxer of the 1964 Olympics and given the Val Barker Trophy, becoming the only Soviet boxer to receive the honour.
