Ghais Malik
Ghais Abdel Malik (21 May 1930 – 2 March 2016) was an Egyptian Anglican bishop, born in Port Said. He was the second Egyptian native Bishop of Egypt in the Episcopal Church in Jerusalem and the Middle East, from 1985 to 2000. He would be President Bishop from 1995 to 2000. Port Said ( ar, بورسعيد, Būrsaʿīd, ; grc, Πηλούσιον, Pēlousion) is a city that lies in northeast Egypt extending about along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, north of the Suez Canal. With an approximate population of 603,787 (2010), it is the List of cities and towns in Egypt, fifth-largest city in Egypt. The city was established in 1859 during the building of the Suez Canal. There are numerous old houses with grand balconies on all floors, giving the city a distinctive look. Port Said's twin city is Port Fuad, which lies on the eastern bank of the Suez Canal. The two cities coexist, to the extent that there is hardly any town centre in Port Fuad. The Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East is a province of the Anglican Communion. The primate of the church is called President Bishop and represents the Church at the international Anglican Communion Primates' Meetings. The Central Synod of the church is its deliberative and legislative organ. The province consists of three dioceses: * Diocese of Jerusalem — covering Israel, Palestinian territories, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon, * Diocese of Cyprus and the Gulf — covering Cyprus, the Arabian peninsula and Iraq, * Diocese of Iran. A fourth diocese (Egypt with North Africa and the Horn of Africa) was part of the province until June 2020.
