Gertruida Van Veen
Gertruida van Veen (June 4, 1602 – June 30, 1643) was a painter from the Southern Netherlands. She was born in Antwerp as the daughter of the painter Otto van Veen. She is best known for her portrait of her father, which is held in the Brussels Museum. Her own portrait was engraved by Lucas Vorsterman. She married Ludovicus Malo and is buried in the St. James' Church, Antwerp. in the Liggeren

Southern Netherlands
The Southern Netherlands, also called the Catholic Netherlands, were the parts of the Low Countries belonging to the Holy Roman Empire which were at first largely controlled by Habsburg Spain (Spanish Netherlands, 1556–1714) and later by the Austrian Habsburgs (Austrian Netherlands, 1714–1794) until occupied and annexed by Revolutionary France (1794–1815). Otto Van Veen
Otto van Veen, also known by his Latinized name Otto Venius or Octavius Vaenius (1556 – 6 May 1629), was a painter, draughtsman, and humanist active primarily in Antwerp and Brussels in the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He is known for running a large studio in Antwerp, producing several emblem books, and for being, from 1594 or 1595 until 1598, Peter Paul Rubens' teacher. His role as a classically educated humanist artist (a ''pictor doctus''), reflected in the Latin name by which he is often known, Octavius Vaenius, was influential on the young Rubens, who would take on that role himself. Lucas Vorsterman
Lucas Vorsterman (1595–1675) was a Baroque engraver. He worked with the artists Peter Paul Rubens and Anthony van Dyck, as well as for patrons such as Thomas Howard, 21st Earl of Arundel and Charles I of England. Biography Vorsterman was born in Zaltbommel. Around 1618, Vorsterman joined Rubens' workshop. Between 1619 and 1621, Vorsterman was Rubens's sole engraver. At that time, Rubens had embarked upon a printmaking enterprise in which he enlisted Vorsterman to engrave a number of his notable paintings, to which Rubens appended personal and professional dedications to noteworthy individuals. In 1621, a violent dispute arose between Vorsterman and Rubens. It is not clear whether there was a physical altercation between the two men, but the situation was sufficiently serious for Rubens' lawyers to petition the authorities for a protection order, which was granted. The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. Liggeren
The Liggeren refers to the archives of the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke. This important archive is used as a source of biographical information on Flemish artists. For instance, it contained the names of all the harpsichord makers in Antwerp. It also included the dates when artists became masters as well as commissioned works. The archive also provided insights concerning the guild membership of female artists. For instance, the entry on the free master Lysbeth Laureys in 1509 did not indicate her craft specialization but her relationship to a male artist, which in this case was her father identified as Jan. Female artists commonly became members of the guild by inheriting guild rights from their husbands or male relatives. Various aspects of the Liggeren have been published, most notably in the 19th century.
