Gerson Orlando Novela (born 12 September 1979) is a Mozamibcan retired basketball player. He played with Clube Ferroviário de Maputo of the Mozambique Professional Basketball League. Guard (basketball)
In the sport of basketball, there are five players play per team, each assigned to positions. Historically, these players have been assigned, to positions defined by the role they play on the court, from a strategic point of view. The three main positions are guard, forward, and center, with the standard team featuring two guards, two forwards, and a center. Clube Ferroviário de Maputo is a basketball club based in Maputo, Mozambique. The team competes in the Mozambican League. In the Mozambican League, Maputo has won eleven national titles. Ferroviário played in the 2021 season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). History The parent club found in October 1924 as Clube Ferroviário de Loruenço Marques, as the city of Maputo was named Loruenço Marques until 1976. The club was only active in football, until the basketball section was founded in the 1960s. In 1962, the basketball club won its first national championship. Clube Ferroviário de Maputo, or simply Ferroviário, is a Mozambique multi sports club from Maputo especially known for its football operations but also for its basketball and roller hockey team. History The club was founded in 1924, as ''Clube Ferroviário de Lourenço Marques''. In 1976, the club was renamed to ''Clube Ferroviário de Maputo''. The Mozambique national basketball team ( pt, seleção moçambicana de basquetebol masculino) is the basketball team that represents Mozambique in international competitions. It is administered by the Federação Moçambicana de Basquetebol (FMB) (Mozambique Basketball Federation). Mozambique has qualified for several major international competitions, including the FIBA Africa Championship and the All-Africa Games where they won the Silver Medal at the 2011 event. FIBA Africa Championship 2009
AfroBasket 2009 was the 25th FIBA Africa Championship, played under the auspices of the Fédération Internationale de Basketball, the basketball sport governing body, and the African zone thereof. At stake were the three berths allocated to Africa in the 2010 FIBA World Championship.
