Gersekarát
Gersekarát is a village in Vas county, Hungary. In 2005 the population was 762 in 325 households. Location Gersekarát lies west-southwest of Vasvár, east-southeast of Körmend, and just north of the Sárvíz Brook ( hu, Sárvíz-patak). Other nearby villages include Sárfimizdó (), Telekes (4 km), Döbörhegy (4 km), Döröske (), Petőmihályfa (5 km), Andrásfa () and Halastó (6 km). History The history of Gersekarát is really the history of two villages, Gerse and Karátföld, which were separate communities until 1950 (see below). The first official mention of Gerse comes from 1272; Karátföld from 1313. Both villages were created by clear-cutting the ancient forest of the area. Telekes
Telekes is a village in , Hungary. Geography Telekes sits alongside the Sárvíz stream, in the Vas hills. There are two parts to the village: Alsótelekes (Lower Telekes) and Felsőtelekes (Upper Telekes), which were amalgamated at the beginning of the 20th century. History The first written record of the village is in 1255 as la, Tekus. The name originated from the noun meaning "area of fertile soil". The name of the village varied during the centuries. In 1282 it is recorded as ''Thelekus'', in 1293 as ''Telukus'', in 1408 as ''Thelekes'', in 1454 as ''Thelekws'', and in 1475 as ''Thelekews''. Vasvár
Vasvár (, , Latin: (formerly) ), is a town in Vas County, Hungary. History While the Ottomans occupied most of central Europe, the region north of lake Balaton remained in the Kingdom of Hungary (1538–1867) (captaincy between Balaton and Drava). The town was the head of the '' EISENBURG'' comitat near 1850. Körmend
Körmend ( sl, Kermendin, Prekmurje Slovene: ''Karmadén,'' ger, Kirment) is a town in Vas county , Western Hungary. Places of interest The town is especially well known for its castle which used to belong to the Batthyány family, one of the most important aristocrat families of Hungary. Blessed Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann (1870–1931), a famous ophthalmologist who was beatified by the Catholic Church, lived in the castle with his family for nearly 10 years. Comitatus (Kingdom Of Hungary)
''Comitatus'' was in ancient times the Latin term for an armed escort or retinue. The term is used especially in the context of Germanic warrior culture for a warband tied to a leader by an oath of fealty and describes the relations between a lord and his retainers, or thanes (OE þegn). The concept is generally considered by scholars to be more of a literary trope rather than one of historical accuracy. Scholars Bruce Mitchell and Fred C.
