Körmend
Körmend ( sl, Kermendin, Prekmurje Slovene: ''Karmadén,'' ger, Kirment) is a town in Vas county , Western Hungary. Places of interest The town is especially well known for its castle which used to belong to the Batthyány family, one of the most important aristocrat families of Hungary. Blessed Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann (1870–1931), a famous ophthalmologist who was beatified by the Catholic Church, lived in the castle with his family for nearly 10 years. He turned one of the wings of the castle into an ophthalmology clinic where he treated poor patients for free. Today, the castle belongs to the Hungarian state. Körmend ( hu, Körmendi járás) is a district in south-western part of Vas County. ''Körmend'' is also the name of the town where the district seat is found. Prince Edmund Batthyany-Strattmann
Edmund Gustavus, 6th Prince Batthyany-Strattmann (20 November 1826 – 29 October 1914), usually known in English as Count Batthyany, was a prince and count of the Holy Roman Empire, a landowner and yachtsman, and a notable figure in Europe and the United States. Soulwave is a Hungarian indie and folk alternative rock band from Körmend. History Formation: 2007–2009 The band was founded in 2007 by singer Máté Fodor and guitarist Ádám Huszár in Körmend. Their first EP was recorded with Gábor Szeifert on bass and drummer Zsolt Mihály, titled "Butterflies EP". The EP was found by Karmatronic, the founder of Karmatronic Records, and afterwards, Soulwave released the band's first single titled ''Lonely'', and was subsequently contracted to prepare another song, which ultimately was not issued. Their first video clip was that of their song ''Lonely''. First album and troubles: 2010–2012 In 2010, their first album was released, titled ''One Night Stand''. This first shows the rock and roll and blues influence that is an important element in Soulwaves' music. Districts of Hungary are the second-level divisions of Hungary after counties. They replaced the 175 subregions of Hungary in 2013. Altogether, there are 174 districts in the 19 counties, and there are 23 districts in Budapest. Sándor Bejczy (1920–2004) was a Hungarian politician, member of the National Assembly (MP) from FKGP National List between 1990 and 1994. Biography He was born in Körmend. He served as chief treasurer of the FKGP from 1945 to 1951. He participated in the reorganization of the FKGP during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. Krisztián Pars
Krisztián Pars (; born 18 February 1982) is a Hungarian hammer thrower. He competed at the Summer Olympics in 2004, 2008, and 2012, winning the gold medal in 2012. He also won the 2012 and 2014 European championships. Career His personal best throw is 82.69 metres, achieved at the 2014 European Championships in Zürich. Pars previously held the world junior record (6 kg) with 81.35 metres, achieved in September 2001 in Szombathely. He took fourth place at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Péter Besenyei
Péter Besenyei (born 1956) is a Hungarian aerobatics pilot and world champion air racer. Biography He was born on 8 June 1956 in Körmend, Hungary. He lived near the airport of Budapest and became interested in flying when he was a child. From watching 1962 World Aerobatic Championships he decided to become a pilot. At 15 years of age he flew a glider for the first time. In 1976 Péter entered his first flying competition by piloting a glider and showed his talent, finishing in second place. Besenyei became an aerobatics pilot and won several titles in national and international championships. He won his first gold medal in 1982 at the Austrian National Championships. His specialty is free-style aerobatics. He invented a number of original snap rolls and, in 1984, the "knife-edge spin". László Batthyány-Strattmann
László Batthyány-Strattmann (german: Ladislaus Batthyány-Strattmann; 28 October 1870 – 22 January 1931) was a Hungarian aristocrat and physician. Until 1914, he was known as László Batthyány. A devout Roman Catholic, he became known as the "doctor of the poor" and was beatified by the church in 2003. Early life László Batthyány - Strattmann was born on 28 October 1870, in Dunakiliti, Austria-Hungary, into a very old Hungarian aristocratic family, the sixth of ten brothers. The family moved to Austria in 1876. His childhood was marred by the fact that his father left his family and converted to Protestantism in order to marry another woman. Fürstenfeld
Fürstenfeld (; hu, Fölöstöm) is a town and a district in southeastern Austria. It is situated within the Austrian federal state of Styria, near the border of Hungary. According to the 2005 census, Fürstenfeld has 5,986 citizens within its communal area, the larger urban area of Fürstenfeld includes approximately 20% more citizens. It was the centre of an eponymous district until the end of 2012, when it was merged with Hartberg to form Hartberg-Fürstenfeld District.
