Germany was represented by mother and daughter duo Maxi and Chris Garden with the song "Lied für einen Freund", at the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, which took place on 30 April in Dublin. "Lied für einen Freund", written by prolific Eurovision duo Ralph Siegel and Bernd Meinunger, was the winner of the German national final, held on 31 March. Maxi and Chris Garden had finished second in the 1987 German final. Ralph Siegel
Ralph Siegel (born 30 September 1945) is a German record producer and songwriter. Siegel is one of the most notable figures at the Eurovision Song Contest, in which he has participated with 24 songs so far, among them the 1982 winner song Ein bisschen Frieden. Life and career Siegel is a prolific producer in the German genre of Schlager music. Since the early 1970s, he worked with artists like Udo Jürgens, Mary Roos, Heino, Rex Gildo, Michael Holm, Chris Roberts, Costa Cordalis, Mireille Mathieu, Peter Alexander, Roy Black, Karel Gott and Marianne Rosenberg. Since 1972 has participated with 24 songs in the Eurovision Song Contest, the latest being the 2017 Sammarinese entry "Spirit of the Night" by Valentina Monetta and Jimmie Wilson. Simone Stelzer
Simone Stelzer (born 1 October 1969) is an Austrian pop singer.Austrian national final for the Eurovision Song Contest. Her song "Keine Mauern mehr" was initially placed second, however, several days after the final it was discovered that winning song "Das Beste" performed by Duett (band), Duett had participated in a German national final in 1988. Duett were therefore disqualified and Simone was announced as the Austrian Eurovision entrant. "Keine Mauern mehr" was placed tenth in the Eurovision Song Contest in Zagreb. Austria In The Eurovision Song Contest 1990
Austria was represented by Simone Stelzer in the Eurovision Song Contest 1990 with the song "Keine Mauern mehr". Before Eurovision National final The Austrian national final took place on 15 March in Studio Z1 of the ORF-Zentrum in Vienna, hosted by Lizzi Engstler, the Austrian entry of the 1982 contest. The winner was decided through a mixture of televoting (50%) and an expert jury (50%). The winner of the final was Duett with the song "Das Beste", however they were disqualified after it was revealed they had competed with the same song in the 1988 German national final. The winner was then declared as Simone Stelzer with the song "Keine Mauern mehr". At Eurovision Stelzer performed 20th on the night of the contest, following Italy and preceding Cyprus. At the close of the voting she had received 58 points, placing 10th of 22 countries competing.
