Germany competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, winning once again the most total medals of any nation. The German Olympic Sports Confederation (german: Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund or DOSB) was founded on 20 May 2006 by a merger of the ''Deutscher Sportbund'' (DSB), and the ''Nationales Olympisches Komitee für Deutschland'' (NOK) which dates back to 1895, the year it was founded and recognized as NOC by the IOC. Bobsleigh At The 2006 Winter Olympics
Three bobsleigh events were competed at the 2006 Winter Olympics, at the Cesana Pariol venue. The competition took place between February 17 and February 26, 2006. The events used the newly built Cesana Pariol track measuring 1435 metres with 19 curves, a vertical change of 114 metres, and an approximate top speed of 130 kilometres per hour. Competitions comprised four heats. Teams raced in the first and third heats in the order of the draw. The second heat was raced in order of ranking after the first heat, and the fourth heat is raced in order of the ranking after the first three heats. Total time for the four heats determined the final rank. Qualification The qualification was based on the results of pilots, with other members of a bobsleigh crew being selected by their National Olympic Committees. Anni Friesinger-Postma
Anna ("Anni") Christine Friesinger-Postma (born 11 January 1977) is a German former speed skater. Her father Georg Friesinger, of Germany, and mother Janina ("Jana") Korowicka, of Poland, were both skaters; Jana was on the Polish team at the 1976 Winter Olympics. Her brother Jan is also a speed skater. Her sister Agnes is a former speed skater. In July 2010, Friesinger retired from her active sports career when she had to be treated for severe cartilage damage in her right knee joint. On 11 August 2009 Friesinger married former Dutch skater Ids Postma, her long-term boyfriend, at Schloss Mirabell. The celebration took place at Schloss Aigen. As of November 2013, Friesinger lives in Salzburg, Austria, and is planning to move to the Netherlands to live with Postma on his farm in Dearsum. In August 2011 she gave birth to a daughter. The Men's individual Gundersen Nordic combined competition for the 2006 Winter Olympics was held in Pragelato, Italy. It took place on 11 February. Results Ski Jumping Fifty athletes entered the ski jumping portion of the sprint; each made two jumps, which was judged in the same fashion as the Olympic ski jumping competition. The combined scores from these two jumps were used to calculate the deficit with which each athlete began the cross-country portion of the event. Each point behind the leading score of Georg Hettich was equivalent to four seconds of time deficit.
