German Submarine U-11 (1935)
German submarine ''U-11'' was a Type IIB U-boat built before World War II for service in Nazi Germany's '' Kriegsmarine''. She was commissioned on 21 September 1935, with ''Kapitänleutnant'' Hans-Rudolf Rösing in command. She served in several training flotillas in her 10-year career, but sank or damaged no ships. In 1940, ''U-11'' was the first unit to carry out sea trials of a new anechoic tile, which was developed by the ''Kriegsmarine'' for reducing a submarines' acoustic signature. Hans-Rudolf Rösing
Hans-Rudolf Rösing (28 September 1905 – 16 December 2004) was a German U-boat commander in World War II and later served in the Bundesmarine of the Federal Republic of Germany. He was a recipient of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross, of Nazi Germany. Early life and pre-war service Rösing was born on 28 September 1905 in Wilhelmshaven, at the time an exclave of the Province of Hanover, a province of the Kingdom of Prussia. He was the son of ''Vizeadmiral'' Bernhard Rösing (1869–1947) and his wife Elfriede, née Wünsche (1882–1961). He had three brothers, Wilhelm, Kurt-Wolf and Bernhard, all killed during World War II, and a sister named Elfriede. He joined the ''Reichsmarine'' on 31 March 1924. A sea trial is the testing phase of a watercraft (including boats, ships, and submarines). It is also referred to as a " shakedown cruise" by many naval personnel. It is usually the last phase of construction and takes place on open water, and it can last from a few hours to many days. Sea trials are conducted to measure a vessel's performance and general seaworthiness. Testing of a vessel's speed, maneuverability, equipment and safety features are usually conducted. Usually in attendance are technical representatives from the builder (and from builders of major systems), governing and certification officials, and representatives of the owners. U-boat
U-boats were naval submarines operated by Germany, particularly in the First and Second World Wars. The Type II U-boat was designed by Nazi Germany as a coastal U-boat, modeled after the CV-707 submarine, which was designed by the Dutch dummy company NV Ingenieurskantoor voor Scheepsbouw Den Haag (I.v.S) (set up by Germany after World War I in order to maintain and develop German submarine technology and to circumvent the limitations set by the Treaty of Versailles) and built in 1933 by the Finnish Crichton-Vulcan shipyard in Turku, Finland.
