Germ De Jong
Germ de Jong (8 March 1886 – 11 April 1967) was a Dutch painter. De Jong studied art at Quellinus, a school for the poor. In 1918 de Jong’s gets his first solo-exhibition, all his works were sold within ten days. When de Jong’s also won the Willink van Collen award for young artists his reputation was made. De Jong moved to Paris, where he became acquainted to Picasso, Mondriaan, Jos Crion, Conrad Kickert and Simon Carmiggelt. Among de Jong’s paintings were many colourful still lifes, focusing mostly on colourful depictions of flowers. His work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale ''Onze Kunst van Heden'' (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam Amsterdam ( , , , lit. Sint Jacobiparochie
Sint Jacobiparochie ( West Frisian and Bildts: ''Sint-Jabik'') is a village in the municipality of Waadhoeke in Friesland, the Netherlands. It lies about 13 km north of Franeker and had approximately 1,365 inhabitants in January 2017. History The village was first mentioned in 1570 as s. iacobus parochie, and means "parish of Saint Jacob". In 1504, a deal was struck between George, Duke of Saxony and four noblemen from Holland to ''polder'' the Middelzee. Each group of settlers had to select a patron saint. In 1505, the dike was constructed. Sint Jacobiparochie was founded in 1505, when Het Bildt was diked in by workers from South Holland, Zeeland and Friesland, among others. It was initially called Wijngaarden, as the place was founded largely by Dutch settlers from Wijngaarden in South Holland. Today, both Dutch and West Frisian are spoken in the town. Onze Kunst Van Heden
Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum . The show was open to all artists, with each artist allowed to enter four pieces. 902 artists exhibited 3,200 works of art in 74 rooms and cabinets of the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum () is the national museum of the Netherlands dedicated to Dutch arts and history and is located in Amsterdam. Simon Carmiggelt
Simon Carmiggelt (7 October 1913 – 30 November 1987) was a Dutch writer, journalist, and poet who became a well known public figure in the Netherlands because of his daily newspaper columns and his television appearances. Biography Simon Johannes Carmiggelt was born on 7 October 1913 in The Hague, the second son of Herman Carmiggelt and Adriana Bik. He had one older brother, Jan (Johannes Simon). Simon did poorly in school and he left secondary school in 1929. He enjoyed working as an editor for the school paper though, and he was determined to become a journalist. After various editorial jobs, he became a reporter for the socialist newspaper '' Het Volk'' ("The People"). Later on he worked for the same paper as a drama critic. He wrote short columns about daily life in The Hague, which he called ''Kleinigheden'' ("Trifles"). In 1939 Simon married Tiny de Goey. A year later she gave birth to a daughter, Marianne. Overveen
Overveen is a village in North Holland in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Bloemendaal. Overveen lies on the eastern fringe of the North Sea dunes. To the east it borders the built-up areas of Haarlem. A few kilometres to the west of the town lies the Erebegraafplaats Bloemendaal (Honorary Cemetery), where many Second World War victims have been reburied, including resistance fighter Hannie Schaft, sculptor and resistance leader Gerrit van der Veen, banker and resistance member Walraven van Hall, Physician and former Wehrmacht officer Karl Groeger, and sculptor and resistance member Johan Limpers.
