Gerhard Strindlund
Gerhard Strindlund (1890–1957) was a Swedish politician who held various cabinet posts in the 1930s. He was a member of the Agrarian Party. Biography Strindlund was born in Sollefteå parish, Västernorrland county, on 24 September 1890. He studied agriculture in Denmark. In 1921 he joined the Agrarian Party and was elected to the Riksdag. In 1936 he was appointed minister for social affairs. In 1938 he was named as the minister of communications (Transport) in the cabinet led by Prime Minister Per Albin Hansson replacing Albert Forslund Albert Forslund (1881–1954) was a Swedish Social Democratic politician and trade union organizer. Ministry Of Communications (Sweden)
The Ministry of Communications (Transport) ( sv, Kommunikationsdepartementet) was a ministry in Sweden, established in 1920 in connection with the division of the Ministry for Civil Service Affairs. The department dealt with administrative matters concerning, among other things, railways and tramways, post telegraph and telephone, canals, roads, bridges, ferries, air traffic, geotechnical, meteorological and hydrological surveys, radio broadcasting and electrical installations. The ministry was headed by the minister of communications (transport). In 1999, the ministry was replaced by the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation. Hansson II Cabinet
The second cabinet of Per Albin Hansson ( sv, Regeringen Hansson II) was the cabinet of Sweden from 1936 to 1939. It was a coalition cabinet consisting of the two parties: Social Democrats and the Farmers' League. History Before the election Since 1933, the Social Democrats had organized cooperation with the Farmers' League, when a historic compromise was reached between the parties regarding political collaboration, which was an important part of the Swedish model. Hedenborg and Kvarnström (2006): p. 295. This cooperation ceased temporarily in the summer of 1936, when Per Albin Hansson resigned his first cabinet. The reason for the resignation was that it did not get the support in parliament for its defense policy, even though it was only three months left to the autumn general election. Per Albin Hansson (28 October 1885 – 6 October 1946) was a Swedish politician, chairman of the Social Democrats from 1925 and two-time Prime Minister in four governments between 1932 and 1946, governing all that period save for a short-lived crisis in the summer of 1936, which he ended by forming a coalition government with his main adversary, Axel Pehrsson-Bramstorp. During World War II, in which Sweden maintained a policy of neutrality, he presided over a government of national unity that included all major parties in the Riksdag with the exception of the Communist Party. Forging the Social Democratic grip on Swedish politics that would last throughout the century, Hansson left an astounding legacy on his party as well as creating the idea of Sweden to become "''Folkhemmet''", "The People's Home".
