Gerhard Pflüger
Gerhard Friedrich Wilhelm Pflüger (9 April 1907 − 24 October 1991) was a German conductor. Life Born in Dresden, Pflüger attended the citizen school and a grammar school in Dresden from 1913 to 1924. He then studied with Kurt Striegler and Fritz Busch at the orchestra school of the Staatskapelle Dresden until 1927. From 1927 to 1930 he was solo répétiteur, kapellmeister and choir conductor in Tilsit in East Prussia. From 1930 to 1932 he was first Kapellmeister in Stralsund and until 1935 in Gotha. From 1935 to 1938 he worked as musical director in Nordhausen. Until 1940 he was first Kapellmeister in Altenburg and afterwards in Meiningen. In 1940 he joined the Nazi Party. From 1946 he was a member of the Sozialistische Einheitspartei Deutschlands. From 1948 to 1955 he was General Music Director and artistic director of the Volkstheater Rostock and the municipal orchestra. Conducting
Conducting is the art of directing a musical performance, such as an orchestral or choral concert. It has been defined as "the art of directing the simultaneous performance of several players or singers by the use of gesture." The primary duties of the conductor are to interpret the score in a way which reflects the specific indications in that score, set the tempo, ensure correct entries by ensemble members, and "shape" the phrasing where appropriate. Conductors communicate with their musicians primarily through hand gestures, usually with the aid of a baton, and may use other gestures or signals such as eye contact. Hochschule Für Musik Und Theater Rostock
The Rostock University of Music and Theatre (short HMT, Hochschule für Musik und Theater Rostock in German) is a college of music in Rostock, Mecklenburg, Germany. It opened in 1994 and is situated in a former abbey called ''Katharinenkloster'' in the historical core of the city. The college is a member of the Association of Baltic Academies of Music. History In 1947, a University of Music, Theatre and Dance was inaugurated in Rostock under the direction of the composer Rudolf Wagner-Régeny. In 1978, it became a branch of the Hans Eisler University of Music in Berlin and was directed by Professor Karl-Heinz Will up until 1990. Weimar
Weimar is a city in the state of Thuringia, Germany. It is located in Central Germany between Erfurt in the west and Jena in the east, approximately southwest of Leipzig, north of Nuremberg and west of Dresden. ''Neues Deutschland'' (''nd''; en, New Germany, sometimes stylized in lowercase letters) is a left-wing German daily newspaper, headquartered in Berlin. The Art Prize of the German Democratic Republic (German: ''Kunstpreis der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik'') was an East German state award bestowed on individuals for contributions in various fields of art. History The Art Prize was annually awarded in recognition of "outstanding creative and interpretive achievements" in visual arts, applied arts, cinema, television, radio and entertainment. It could be conferred to individual recipients or in collective, to groups of no more than six people. The recipients were awarded a silver-coated metal medal, 20 millimeter in diameter, with the inscription ''Kunstpreis''. Beside it, a single grantee would also be entitled to a sum of 6,000 East German Marks, while a collective would get a sum as high as 20,000. The Art Prize was the country's highest honor for artists, and was outranked only by the National Prize of East Germany.
