Gerhard Erber
Gerhard Erber (21 November 1934 – 4 September 2021) was a German classical pianist and academic teacher. He played as a member of the East German ensemble Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler, which focused on contemporary chamber music. He was a professor of piano at the University of Music and Theatre Leipzig, and organised a Bach competition in Köthen. Life Born in Dessau, Erber was the son of the piano manufacturer Fritz Erber. He studied piano with Amadeus Webersinke at the Musikhochschule Leipzig from 1953 to 1959. Afterwards, he was the piano teacher of the Thomanerchor. In 1964, he achieved the third prize at the International Johann Sebastian Bach Competition. He has a broad repertoire, with a focus on contemporary classical music and chamber music. Dessau
Dessau is a town and former municipality in Germany at the confluence of the rivers Mulde and Elbe, in the '' Bundesland'' (Federal State) of Saxony-Anhalt. Since 1 July 2007, it has been part of the newly created municipality of Dessau-Roßlau. Population of Dessau proper: 67,747 (Dec. 2020). Geography Dessau is situated on a floodplain where the Mulde flows into the Elbe. This causes yearly floods. Volker Straebel
Volker Straebel (born 1969) is a German musicologist and composer and performer of experimental music. Life Straebel grew up in Berlin (West) where he was born. He studied musicology, philosophy and library science at the Technische Universität Berlin and the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (Magister Artium). As music journalist, among others for ''Der Tagesspiegel'' (1996–2001) and the '' Berliner Seiten der Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung'' (2001–2002), he documented contemporary music and sound art in Berlin. In 2002–14 he was curatorial advisor to the festival MaerzMusik of the Berliner Festspiele. Erik Satie
Eric Alfred Leslie Satie (, ; ; 17 May 18661 July 1925), who signed his name Erik Satie after 1884, was a French composer and pianist. He was the son of a French father and a British mother. He studied at the Paris Conservatoire, but was an undistinguished student and obtained no diploma. In the 1880s he worked as a pianist in café-cabaret in Montmartre, Paris, and began composing works, mostly for solo piano, such as his ''Gymnopédies'' and '' Gnossiennes''. He also wrote music for a Rosicrucian sect to which he was briefly attached. After a spell in which he composed little, Satie entered Paris's second music academy, the Schola Cantorum, as a mature student. MaerzMusik is a festival of the Berliner Festspiele and has been held annually since 2002 in March at the Haus der Berliner Festspiele and other venues. It is the successor festival to the Musik-Biennale Berlin and is considered one of the most important festivals for Neue Musik in Germany. The artistic director of MaerzMusik is Kamila Metwaly. Gerhard Rosenfeld (10 February 1931 – 5 March 2003) was a German composer. He became known for his film music and opera works, among other things. Life Born in Königsberg, Rosenfeld studied musicology from 1952 to 1954 at the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin as well as music theory and musical composition at the Hochschule für Musik "Hanns Eisler" Berlin from 1954 to 57 with Rudolf Wagner-Régeny. Reiner Bredemeyer
Reiner Bredemeyer (2 January 1929 − 5 December 1995) was a German composer. He was born in Vélez, Santander and went to school in Breslau. In 1944 he was drafted into military service and was briefly held as a prisoner of war of the American Army in Bavaria. After the end of World War II, he met composer Karl Amadeus Hartmann who introduced him to the music of Igor Stravinsky, Béla Bartók, Anton Webern, Edgard Varèse, Charles Ives and Erik Satie. From 1949 to 1953 he studied composition with Karl Höller at the Munich Academy for Musical Arts. Georg Katzer
Georg Katzer (; 10 January 1935 – 7 May 2019) was a German composer and teacher. The last master student of Hanns Eisler, he composed music in many genres, including works for the stage. Katzer was one of the pioneers of electronic new music in the German Democratic Republic and the founder of the first electronic-music studio in the GDR. He held leading positions in music organisations, first in the East ( Akademie der Künste der DDR), then in the united Germany (Academy of Arts, Berlin, and Deutscher Musikrat), and received many awards, including the Art Prize of the German Democratic Republic, the National Prize of the German Democratic Republic, the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the German Music Authors' Prize.
