Gerard Monan is an Irish hurler who played for the Down senior hurling team. Born in Ballygalget, County Down County Down () is one of the six counties of Northern Ireland, one of the nine counties of Ulster and one of the traditional thirty-two counties of Ireland. It covers an area of and has a population of 531,665. It borders County Antrim to the ..., Monan first played competitive hurling in his youth. He played in different grades at inter-county level with Down, however, he enjoyed little success throughout his career. At club level Monan is a one-time Ulster medallist with Ballygalget. He has also won several championship medals with the club. In retirement from playing, Monan became involved in team management and coaching at club and inter-county levels. After a successful spell as manager of Ballygalget, Monan was appointed manager of the Down senior hurling team in 2009. The London County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael, Coiste Londain) or London GAA is one of the county boards outside Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in London. The county board is also responsible for the London county teams and schools. 2013 Christy Ring Cup
The 2013 Christy Ring Cup was the ninth staging of the Christy Ring Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2005. The cup competition began on 4 May 2013 and ended on 8 June 2013. London were defending champions, however, they were promoted to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. In Gaelic games, a manager or (in Irish) ''bainisteoir'' is involved in the direction and instruction of the on-field operations of a team. The role entails the application of sport tactics and strategies during the game itself, and usually entails substitution of players and other such actions as needed. Christy Ring Cup
The Christy Ring Cup () is an annual hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. Originally introduced as a second-tier competition, it is currently the third tier overall in the inter-county hurling championship system. Each year, the champions of the Christy Ring Cup are promoted to the Joe McDonagh Cup, and the lowest finishing team is relegated to the Nicky Rackard Cup. Kildare are the 2022 title-holders. The competition is named in honour of Christy Ring, a legendary player from Cork. The Christy Ring Cup, which was introduced in 2005, replaced the All-Ireland B Hurling Championship (1974-2004). Éamonn Phelan
Éamonn Phelan (born 1974) is an Irish retired hurler who played as a right corner-back for the London senior team. Phelan began his senior career with the team in 2004 and was a regular player on the inter-county scene for six years. During that time he won one Nicky Rackard Cup medal and one National League (Division 3B) medal. At club level Phelan currently plays with the Seán Treacy's club. He previously lined out with the Sydney Shamrocks club in Sydney and the Carrickshock club in Kilkenny. Sydney Shamrocks player of the year 1998 Shortly after his inter-county retirement Phelan was appointed manager of the London senior hurling team in October 2010. The Down County Board ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae An Dún) or Down GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Ireland, and is responsible for the administration of Gaelic games in County Down, Northern Ireland. The County Board is responsible for preparing the Down county teams in the various Gaelic sporting codes; football, hurling, camogie and handball. The county football team was the second from the province of Ulster to win an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (SFC), following Cavan, and also the first team from Northern Ireland to win the Sam Maguire Cup since partition, doing so in 1960. Down Senior Hurling Championship
The Down Senior Hurling Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the Morgan Fuels Down GAA Senior Hurling Championship and abbreviated to the Down SHC) is an annual hurling competition contested by top-tier Down GAA clubs. The Down County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association has organised it since 1903. Ballycran are the title holders (2021) defeating Portaferry in the Final after extra time. History Faugh-a-Ballagh won the inaugural Down SHC in 1903. The competition has been won by 10 teams, 9 of which have won it more than once. Ballycran is the most successful team in the tournament's history, having won it 27 times. No team outside Ballycran, Portaferry and Ballygalget have won the title since Kilclief's 23rd victory in 1956.
