State Route 77 (SR 77) is a state highway that travels south-to-north through portions of Hancock, Greene, Oglethorpe, Elbert, and Hart counties in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. Route description SR 77 begins at an intersection with SR 16, at a point northwest of Sparta, in Hancock County. It heads northeast to an intersection with SR 15. They head concurrent to the north-northwest, passing through rural areas of the county and cross into Greene County. They pass through White Plains and curve to the northwest to the town of Siloam. In town, SR 15 heads to the northwest on Main Street, while SR 77 splits off to the north-northeast and has an interchange with Interstate 20. Then, it leaves town and heads north to Union Point. Sparta is a city in and the county seat of Hancock County, Georgia, United States. It is part of the Milledgeville Micropolitan Statistical Area. The city's population was 1,400 at the 2010 census. State Route 15 (SR 15) is a state highway that travels south-to-north across the entire length of the U.S. state of Georgia, east of its centerline. This route is part of a multi two-state route 15 that begins at Florida and ends at Georgia at the North Carolina state line. State Route 22 (SR 22) is a state highway that travels southwest-to-northeast in an eastern arc through portions of Muscogee, Talbot, Taylor, Upson, Crawford, Bibb, Jones, Baldwin, Hancock, Taliaferro, Oglethorpe, and Madison counties in the western and west-central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia. The highway connects the Alabama state line in Columbus, across the state line from Phenix City, Alabama, to Comer, via Macon and Milledgeville. SR 22 originally traveled only from Columbus to Macon, and was incrementally extended to Comer in stages. State Route 10 (SR 10) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels from Downtown Atlanta to the South Carolina state line in Augusta. This highway, along with U.S. Route 78 (US 78), connect three of the biggest metro areas of the state together: Atlanta, Athens, and Augusta. Stephens is an unincorporated community in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, United States. As of the 2010 census, the ZIP Code Tabulation Area for Stephens' post office had a population of 1035. The community of Stephens (including its post office) is located along State Route 77 between Maxeys and Lexington, at the intersection of Salem Road, which heads east through some rural and low-density residential areas and eventually on to State Route 22. History An old variant name was "Antioch". The present name is after Alexander Stephens (1812–1883), Vice President of the Confederate States of America. Not much evidence is left at the heart of the community, as the railroad that once ran along State Route 77 from Athens to Union Point was pulled up in 2000, and all that stands are a few abandoned buildings including a recently closed convenience store. State Route 44 (SR 44) is a state highway that runs southwest-to-northeast through portions of Jones, Putnam, Greene, Taliaferro, Wilkes, and Lincoln counties in the central and east-central parts of the U.S. state of Georgia.
