Rossana Monti, better known by the stage name Georgia Brown, is an Italian Brazilian singer noted for her extensive vocal range. Career At the age of fifteen, Brown toured as backup vocalist for Brazilian singer Jorge Ben Jor, during his "W Brasil Tour" in 1995. Following the conclusion of the tour, she entered in contests "Skol Rock" and "Fest Valda". In 1997, Brown relocated to California in the United States of America to begin recording her first album. Georgia-Rose Brown (born 22 January 1995 in Auchenflower, Queensland) is an Australian artistic gymnast. She has competed in four World Championships and helped the Australian women secure a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Brown was part of the Australian women's team at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. She helped the team qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in 6th place and competed on the uneven bars in the team final, where Australia finished 8th. The following year, she was chosen as an alternate for the Australian women's Olympic team. In 2014, she was part of the team that won silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. The first feature film directed by Vincente Minnelli, ''Cabin in the Sky'' features an all-black cast and stars Ethel Waters, Eddie "Rochester" Anderson and Lena Horne. Waters and Rex Ingram reprise their roles from the Broadway production as Petunia and Lucifer Junior, respectively. The film was Horne's first and only leading role in an MGM musical. "Sweet Georgia Brown" is a jazz standard composed in 1925 by Ben Bernie and Maceo Pinkard, with lyrics by Kenneth Casey. History Reportedly, Ben Bernie came up with the concept for the song's lyrics – although he is not the credited lyricist – after meeting Dr. George Thaddeus Brown in New York City. Dr. Brown, a longtime member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, told Bernie about his daughter, Georgia Brown, and how subsequent to the baby girl's birth on August 11, 1911, the Georgia General Assembly had issued a declaration that she was to be named Georgia after the state. This anecdote would be directly referenced by the song's lyric: "Georgia claimed her – Georgia named her."
