Georgia-Rose Brown
Georgia-Rose Brown (born 22 January 1995 in Auchenflower, Queensland) is an Australian artistic gymnast. She has competed in four World Championships and helped the Australian women secure a silver medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Brown was part of the Australian women's team at the 2011 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo. She helped the team qualify for the 2012 Summer Olympics in 6th place and competed on the uneven bars in the team final, where Australia finished 8th. The following year, she was chosen as an alternate for the Australian women's Olympic team. In 2014, she was part of the team that won silver at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. She qualified for the uneven bars and vault finals, where she came in 5th and 7th, respectively. She finished in 13th place in the all-around. Auchenflower is an inner suburb of the City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Torwood is a neighbourhood () within Auchenflower. Geography Auchenflower is located west of the Brisbane CBD bordering the Brisbane River. History The area was formerly populated by rural estates, one of which was named ''Auchenflower'' by Thomas McIlwraith circa 1880. The name ''Auchenflower'' is a Gaelic word meaning ''field of flowers''. Between 1900 and 1962 Auchenflower was served by trams running along Milton Road from Toowong. The services were withdrawn after the disastrous Paddington tram depot fire. In May 1920, "Drysllwyn Estate" made up of 37 allotments was advertised to be auctioned by Cameron Bros, auctioneers. A map advertising the auction states that the Estate is opposite the residence "Drysllwyn" and near Auchenflower Railway Station. Auchenflower Infants' Provisional School opened on 30 January 1922. Balance Beam
The balance beam is a rectangular artistic gymnastics apparatus and an event performed using the apparatus. Both the apparatus and the event are sometimes simply referred to as "beam". The English abbreviation for the event in gymnastics scoring is BB. The beam is a small, thin beam which is typically raised from the floor on a leg or stand at both ends. The balance beam is only performed competitively by female gymnasts. Beams are usually covered with leather-like material and are only four inches wide. Balance beams used in international gymnastics competitions must conform to the guidelines and specifications set forth by the International Gymnastics Federation ''Apparatus Norms'' brochure. Several companies manufacture and sell beams, including AAI (USA), Janssen Fritsen (Europe) and Acromat (Australia). 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2019 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships was held in Stuttgart, Germany from October 4–13, 2019. The championships took place at the Hanns-Martin-Schleyer-Halle, and was the third time the city of Stuttgart hosted the event following the 1989 and 2007 editions, and the fifth time Germany hosted it. As of October 2, 92 federations registered gymnasts for the event with a total of 288 men and 259 women. Sam Mikulak of the United States and Mélanie de Jesus dos Santos of France won the Longines Prize for Elegance. Both mark a first for their respective countries: de Jesus dos Santos is the first gymnast from France to win this prize, and Mikulak is the first male gymnast from the United States to win one. 2018 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships
The 2018 Artistic Gymnastics World Championships was the 48th edition of the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships. The competition was held from October 25 – November 3, 2018, at the Aspire Academy Dome in Doha, Qatar. It was the first time that the competition was held in the Middle East. Simone Biles became the first American to medal on every event at a single World Championships and the first woman to do so in 31 years. 2016 Gymnastics Olympic Test Event
The 2016 Olympic Gymnastics Test Event, known officially as Aquece Rio 2016, served as the final qualifier to the gymnastics events at the 2016 Summer Olympics, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Concerns and criticisms During the test event the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) raised "serious concerns" regarding the state of preparations for the Summer Olympics. There were power outages while the athletes were performing. Furthermore, the concerns include problems with the timing system and insufficient lighting in competition and training halls.
