Georges-François Godefroy Framond de La Framondie (4 February 1733, in Grèzes, Lozère — 28 September 1785, in Montargis) was a French Navy officer. He served in the War of American Independence, earning membership in the Society of the Cincinnati. Biography Framond was born to the family of Jeanne Marie Elisabeth Césarine de Rochefort d'Ailly, and of Louis François Framond de Grèzes, from Gévaudan. His brothers Charles-Auguste Framond de Grèzes and Étienne Aimé François Framond de La Framondie also served in the Navy. Framond joined the Navy as a Garde-Marine in 1748. he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1757. In 1765, Framond commanded the 20-gun xebec ''Caméléon'' during the Larache expedition. In 1770, he was made a Knight in the Order of Saint Louis. In 1773, Framond was first officer on the 74-gun ''Protecteur'', for a journey from Brest to Toulon. ''Caton'' was a 64-gun ship of the line of the French Navy, launched in 1777. French career In 1780, ''Caton'' was part of the squadron under Guichen, captained by Georges-François de Framond. ''Caton'' was later attached to the squadron commanded by De Grasse. She took part in the Battle of Martinique on 17 April 1780, as well as in the two smaller engagements of 15 and 19 May 1780. At the Battle of Fort Royal, on 29 April 1781, ''Caton'' was one of the four ships to come reinforce the squadron under De Grasse, along with ''Victoire'', ''Réfléchi'' and ''Solitaire''. The Château de Ham (also called fort or forteresse de Ham) is a castle in the ''commune'' of Ham in the Somme ''département'' in Hauts-de-France, France. History The early castle, whose construction date is unknown, is mentioned in a 1052 charter. Battle Of The Mona Passage
The Battle of the Mona Passage was a naval engagement on 19 April 1782 taking place in the aftermath of the Battle of the Saintes between Britain and France during the American Revolutionary War. A British fleet under Rear-Admiral Sir Samuel Hood, pursued a small French fleet under Georges-François de Framond which had managed to escape the victorious British fleet a week earlier. The two fleets met and engaged at the Mona Passage where the British overtook and captured four French ships, two of which were 64-gun ships of the line. The Battle of the Chesapeake, also known as the Battle of the Virginia Capes or simply the Battle of the Capes, was a crucial naval battle in the American Revolutionary War that took place near the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay on 5 September 1781. The Battle of Martinique, also known as the Combat de la Dominique, took place on 17 April 1780 during the American Revolutionary War in the West Indies between the British Royal Navy and the French Navy. François Joseph Paul De Grasse
François Joseph Paul, Comte de Grasse, Marquis of Grasse-Tilly SMOM (13 September 1722 – 11 January 1788) was a career French officer who achieved the rank of admiral. He is best known for his command of the French fleet at the Battle of the Chesapeake in 1781 in the last year of the American Revolutionary War. It led directly to the British surrender at Yorktown and helped gain the rebels' victory. After this action, de Grasse returned with his fleet to the Caribbean. In 1782 British Admiral Rodney decisively defeated and captured Grasse at the Battle of the Saintes. Grasse was widely criticised for his loss in that battle.
