George Woodger
George Woodger (3 September 1883 – 6 March 1961) was an English international footballer, who played as an outside left. Career Born in Croydon, he signed for Crystal Palace in 1905 from local club Thornton Heath Wednesday, and played a part in their 1–0 away win against Newcastle United in the FA Cup in 1907. Croydon
Croydon is a large town in south London, England, south of Charing Cross. Part of the London Borough of Croydon, a local government district of Greater London. It is one of the largest commercial districts in Greater London, with an extensive shopping district and night-time economy. Horace Astley
Horace Astley (born 1882) was an English footballer who played for Crystal Palace as a forward. Career Born in Bolton, Astley played professionally for Middlesbrough, before following manager Jack Robson South to join the newly established club, Crystal Palace. Astley was the top scorer in the club's second season, 1906–07, the club's first playing in the Southern League Division One. 1906–07 FA Cup
The 1906–07 FA Cup was the 36th season of the world's oldest association football competition, the Football Association Challenge Cup (more usually known as the FA Cup). The Wednesday won the competition for the second time, beating holders Everton 2–1 in the final at Crystal Palace. Matches were scheduled to be played at the stadium of the team named first on the date specified for each round, which was always a Saturday. If scores were level after 90 minutes had been played, a replay would take place at the stadium of the second-named team later the same week. If the replayed match was drawn further replays would be held at neutral venues until a winner was determined. Forwards (also known as attackers) are outfield positions in an association football team who play the furthest up the pitch and are therefore most responsible for scoring goals as well as assisting them. The Football Association Challenge Cup, more commonly known as the FA Cup, is an annual knockout football competition in men's domestic English football. First played during the 1871–72 season, it is the oldest national football competition in the world. It is organised by and named after The Football Association (The FA). Since 2015, it has been known as The Emirates FA Cup after its headline sponsor. A concurrent women's tournament is also held, the Women's FA Cup.
