George W. Houk
George Washington Houk (September 25, 1825 – February 9, 1894) was a lawyer and politician representing Ohio in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1891 until his death in 1894. Early life and career George W. Houk was born near Mount Holly Springs in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, the son of Adam and Catherine (Knisley) Houk. The family moved to Dayton, Ohio in 1827 where George Houk attended the public schools and the E. E. Barney Academy at Dayton. For a number of years Houk taught school while he studied law with Peter P. Lowe. George W. Houk was admitted to the bar in 1847, commencing practice in Dayton. He married Eliza Phillips Thruston (23 October 1833 – 31 August 1914), daughter of Robert A. and Mary (Phillips) Thruston, both of locally prominent families. They had five children. Ohio's 3rd Congressional District
Ohio's 3rd congressional district is located entirely in Franklin County and includes most of the city of Columbus. The current district lines were drawn in 2011, following the redistricting based on the 2010 census. It is currently represented by Democrat Joyce Beatty. Ohio House Of Representatives
The Ohio House of Representatives is the lower house of the Ohio General Assembly, the state legislature of the U.S. state of Ohio; the other house of the bicameral legislature being the Ohio Senate. The House of Representatives first met in Chillicothe on March 3, 1803, under the later superseded state constitution of that year. In 1816, the capital was moved to Columbus, where it is located today. Members are limited to four successive two-year elected terms (terms are considered successive if they are separated by less than four years). Time served by appointment to fill out another representative's uncompleted term does not count against the term limit. There are 99 members in the house, elected from single-member districts. Fifty-second United States Congress
The 52nd United States Congress was a meeting of the legislative branch of the United States federal government, consisting of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. It met in Washington, D.C. from March 4, 1891, to March 4, 1893, during the final two years of Benjamin Harrison's presidency. The apportionment of seats in the House of Representatives was based on the Tenth Census of the United States in 1880. Henry Lee Morey
Henry Lee Morey (April 8, 1841 – December 29, 1902) was an officer in the United States Army during the American Civil War and a politician and U.S. Congressman after the war. Early life and career Henry L. Morey was born in Milford Township near Collinsville, Butler County, Ohio. He was a son of William and Derexa (Whitcomb) Morey, and the great-grandson of Revolutionary War officer Silas Morey and grandson of Revolutionary soldier Anthony Whitcomb. William Morey in his early life was a hatter and to buy furs he occasionally visited New Orleans, where he witnessed the workings of slavery. He abhorred what he saw and became a radical abolitionist. Returning to Ohio, William opened his home as part of the Underground Railroad, and was well known as a friend of the black man.
