George Peter (politician, Died 1893)
George Peter (November 28, 1829 – Augustus 9, 1893) was a Democrat American politician in the state of Maryland. George Peter was born in Montgomery County, Maryland, to politician George Peter and Sarah Norfleet Freeland. He followed in his father's footsteps and became a delegate to the Maryland constitutional convention in 1864. In 1878 he became a member of the Maryland State Senate, which he remained until 1888. The president of the Maryland Senate is elected by the State Senate. The incumbent is Bill Ferguson who has held the role since 2020. Robert Franklin Brattan
Robert Franklin Brattan (May 13, 1845 – May 10, 1894) was an American politician and lawyer. He served in the Maryland House of Delegates, Maryland Senate and the U.S. House of Representatives. Early life Robert Franklin Brattan was born on May 13, 1845, in Barren Creek Springs in Somerset (now Wicomico) County, Maryland to Elizabeth (née Venables) and Joseph Brattan. His father was a merchant and agriculturist. His grandfather was Joshua Brattan, a state delegate from Somerset County. Brattan was named for his uncle, Franklin Brattan, a lawyer who practiced law with David Davis in Illinois. At the age of nineteen, during the American Civil War, Brattan was arrested on a charge of carrying a Southern spy near his home. His father was also arrested on charges of disloyalty. Brattan attended schools in Somerset County. He graduated from Washington College of Chestertown, Maryland, in 1864. Brattan was appointed as deputy register of wills for Somerset County. Edwin Warfield
Edwin Warfield (May 7, 1848March 31, 1920) was an American politician and a member of the United States Democratic Party, and the 45th Governor of Maryland in the United States from 1904 to 1908. Early life Edwin Warfield was born to Albert G. Warfield and Margaret Gassaway Warfield at the "Oakdale" plantation in Howard County, Maryland. He received early education at the public schools of Howard County and at St. Timothy's Hall (formerly an Episcopal Church institution, now known as St. Timothy's School) in Catonsville, Maryland, a "streetcar suburb", southwest of Baltimore in Baltimore County. In 1877 he became a professor at Maryland's Agricultural College. Although Maryland was a Union State, many families were southern sympathizers, two of Warfield's brothers served in the Confederate States Army.
