George Birrell Gibb Paterson (29 June 1904 – 1949) was a Scottish footballer who played in the Football League for Stoke. Career Born in Fife, Paterson played for local side Lochgelly United, then spent a year with junior club Kelty Rangers before returning to Lochgelly United, where he was a prolific goalscorer in his second spell (albeit in the third tier of the Scottish Football League), prompting English club Stoke City to sign him in 1925. He made an impressive start, scoring a hat-trick on his debut in a 4–0 win against Middlesbrough. George Denholm Paterson (26 September 1914 – 25 December 1985) was a Scottish international footballer. Paterson started his senior career at Celtic, where he won two Scottish league championships and the Scottish Cup once. He then served in the Royal Air Force during the Second World War, while playing as a guest for Leicester City, Blackpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Tranmere Rovers and Arsenal. Paterson's career with Celtic came to an end after he incurred a three-month suspension for vociferously arguing with the referee (whom he felt was under the influence of alcohol) during Celtic's 1946 Victory Cup semi-final against rivals Rangers. George Paterson (rower)
George Murray Paterson (6 November 1940 – 26 July 2020) was a New Zealand rowing (sport), rower. At the 1962 British Empire and Commonwealth Games he won the gold medal as part of the coxed four event alongside fellow Waitaki Boys' High School crew members Keith Heselwood, Hugh Smedley and Winston Stephens, plus Waikato cox Doug Pulman. Their coach was Rusty Robertson. Paterson competed at the New Zealand at the 1964 Summer Olympics, 1964 Olympics in the Rowing at the 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's eight, men's eight event. His brother-in-law Gary Robertson (rower), Gary Robertson is also a retired Olympic rower. Paterson died in Christchurch on 26 July 2020.
